Happy Halloween 🎃 👻🎃…. You know what is not scary, watching the progress of New Stone Commons!
It has been almost six weeks since I shared photos and you can truly see the difference. They aren’t just “dressed up” as apartments these days, but you can see they are becoming homes. Crews are doing a great job to ensure they are “dried in” before any cold weather so finishing work over the winter won’t be compromised. In partnership with Neighborhood Concepts, Inc., we look forward to the opening of these 42 units in our community in June 2027, that will offer affordable housing, without the barriers keeping so many that we work with homeless today.

(Special thanks to Philip Andrew Trudell who is providing drone photos to New Futures during this project! It is amazing to see the beginning when it was just dirt, up until today. We are so thankful you have documented this journey for us!)

Found this today and just felt it was worth sharing. This group’s second chance housing, focused on support for those in the judicial system, is something that led me to believe we could find landlords who would work with our families.

The truth is though that we can’t do it for everyone. Not everyone will be successful. We have lots of families really thriving in our program right now and it is amazing to see the progress they are making. Unfortunately, we have also had some families fail recently and that is heartbreaking. But their failure will not stop us from continuing to help those who want to do the work.

We will always keep showing up for those who are putting in the effort, but we can’t do it for anyone not willing to put in the work.

This year has gone by so quickly! If you are looking for ways to share the holiday spirit with homeless families, we are here to coordinate your gifts now. We welcome the opportunity to schedule volunteers to come in to provide community dinners, create memories with the kids through craft parties (ornament making, cookie decorating, etc.), or drop off donations of gifts to help fill Santa’s bags or even stock the shelter’s supply closets. Reach out now to get on the calendar to help us round out 2026! We are looking forward to a Happy Hallogivmas and you can help us. You can drop off or ship items to shelter at 3419 Venona Ave. NW, Huntsville, AL 35810 or for more information or to schedule something specific contact us by email at [email protected] or call or text 256-929-3215.
