Apparently, our approach of ignoring the weather and hoping it would just go away isn’t working. So, unfortunately, now we have to talk about it. 🙄❄️

THE ROADS ARE SLICK!

With areas of freezing rain and temperatures bouncing above and below freezing, road conditions can change quickly. That pavement that looks wet might actually be ice! 🥶

A few friendly reminders from your Willow-Caswell firefighters:

🚗 SLOW DOWN! Four-wheel drive doesn’t mean four-wheel stop.

⏰ LEAVE EARLY! Give yourself extra time so you’re not rushing to your destination.

🛑 GIVE YOURSELF SPACE! Increase your following distance and allow plenty of extra stopping and reaction time.

✅ BUCKLE UP! Every seat. Every trip. No exceptions.

💡 TURN YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON! Not your high beams, and definitely not that giant 52-inch Rough Country light bar that can be seen from the International Space Station. 😂🛸 Your fellow drivers appreciate being able to see, too!

We know, we know… it’s Alaska. We do this every year. But somehow that first round of slick roads still manages to surprise a few folks.

Drive smart. Slow down. Arrive safe.

Stay safe out there,

Willow-Caswell Fire Department 🚒

As temperatures drop and we turn on our heating systems, boilers, fireplaces, and gas appliances, fuels that don't burn completely can cause a buildup of this invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas indoors.

Before the winter chill sets in, make sure your home's heating equipment and appliances are properly inspected and serviced. Poorly vented or malfunctioning equipment can cause sudden illness or death, but annual maintenance helps prevent dangerous leaks.

Make sure your home is protected:

✅Test every carbon monoxide alarm monthly and check its replacement date.
✅Ensure alarms are installed on every level where bedrooms are located and near every sleeping area.
✅Know what to do if an alarm sounds: go outside immediately into fresh air, call 911 from outside, and stay out until emergency responders say it's safe to return.

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is
warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or
color, or if you see smoke. If it is safe, move the device away
from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can
overheat and start a fire. For more info: fpw.org.
