It’s was great being out at the El Valor Trunk or Treat in South Chicago today with Rep Curtis Tarver. It was awesome to pass out candy and see so many families and children taking part in the holiday, Happy Early Halloween!!

I first met Kelvin Doherty at a delegation visit to Northern Ireland. Kelvin does amazing work on youth justice. He did an amazing job explaining the Good Friday Agreement and its impact on a child first juvenile justice system. It was great to catch up and talk youth justice and learn more about Northern Ireland.

Today we feel the weight of the loss of Laquan McDonald, who suffered from 16 fatal shots to the body. The loss of his life and the sentencing that followed was a miscarriage of justice, and we will continue to fight for criminal justice reform.
