This year's trick or treat hours are 3:00pm-8:00pm (due to it landing on a Saturday). Please remember to stay safe as you're navigating through neighborhoods in the dark. Our Annual Coat Drive is Back!

Join us in helping keep our community warm this season by donating gently used coats throughout the month of October.

The coat drive utilizes a voucher system, allowing anyone in need to receive a coat free of charge.

School District 122 students and families are encouraged to donate at their schools. Community members may drop off donations at New Lenox Village Hall or the New Lenox Police Department.

All collection locations will have vouchers available for those in need. Vouchers can also be obtained at the New Lenox Township Office, 1100 S. Cedar Road.

Vouchers may be redeemed at Morning Star Treasure Chest II, 2571 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox, where a free coat will be provided to anyone presenting a voucher.

Vouchers will be available throughout the duration of the coat drive.

Help make a difference this fall by donating a coat and helping a neighbor stay warm.

************Community Information**************

There is information on social media stating there was an armed robbery at Burger King in New Lenox. These rumors are not true. New Lenox Police responded to a road rage incident in the area where one of the parties made a statement about a fi***rm. No fi***rms were seen or displayed during the incident. The reporting of that incident was delayed, and the party that allegedly made the statement was no longer on scene when officers arrived. The incident is still under investigation. At no time was there an armed robbery or any other threat to the community.

On October 5th, the New Lenox Police Department arrested Nickolas R. Svehla for domestic battery/endangering the life or health of a child/obstructing a police officer.

The officers were dispatched to Alta Vista Drive in reference to a domestic battery complaint. Officers were advised that the witness could hear children crying and witnessed a female bleeding. Upon arrival officers met with the female victim, who advised she was involved in an argument with their family member, Svehla. As the argument escalated, Svehla threw an object at the victim and knocked the victim to the ground, which caused minor injuries to the victim. The victim indicated that fi***rms were present in the home. Svehla was not cooperative, made threats of violence towards police officers, and ceased communication with officers while remaining in the residence.

This created significant safety concerns that required additional assistance and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team responded to assist the NLPD. On 10/05/2026, officers made contact with Svehla and were able to safely take him into custody. Svehla was transported to the NLPD.

DISPOSITION/BOND: Svehla was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
