**DARRELL HARRIS AND THE CONNECTICUT REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY: A CONNECTION EASTON VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT**
Darrell Harris, the Republican candidate for State Representative and the Chair of the Easton Republican Town Committee, has a documented history of membership with the Connecticut Republican Assembly (CTRA), an organization affiliated with the National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA), which describes itself as the “Republican Wing of the Republican Party.”
**Why does this matter?**
The CTRA is affiliated with a national conservative organization whose published platform takes hardline positions on fundamental civil rights, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, separation of church and state, public education, and the authority of federal law.
These positions raise serious questions about whether the organization's vision for our state reflects the values of fairness, inclusion, individual freedom, and respect for our neighbors that so many of us in Easton, Redding, Weston, and across Connecticut hold dear.
Consider some of those positions:
**1. Marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights.** The NFRA platform explicitly opposes same-s*x marriage and efforts to validate transgender identity.
**2. Reproductive rights.** The organization opposes abortion and describes it as something other than healthcare. Its platform also supports restrictions on reproductive and s*xual health education.
**3. Separation of church and state.** Its platform criticizes the contemporary interpretation of separation of church and state and describes secular humanism as a de facto state religion.
**4. Federal law and constitutional authority.** The platform supports state resistance to certain federal laws and even asserts a state's right to secede from the United States.
**5. Public education.** The organization advocates broad restrictions on teaching s*x education, s*xual health, s*xual identity, and certain historical subjects in public schools.
These are not positions invented by political opponents. They come from the national organization's published platform.
Voters deserve to understand the organizations with which candidates have chosen to associate, especially when those organizations publish positions affecting the rights and freedoms of Connecticut residents.
