National Pet Month wraps up today!
We loved celebrating the pets of some of our Friends of the Edgewater Library friends. Unfortunately, some of our four-legged friends are sad that National Pet Month has ended. One such pet is the recently adopted, Tato. He wanted to do more celebrating.
Tato also wants to protest his name. In his bio, the adoption agency said he looked like a “baked potato with legs.” So, his mom named him Tato. This tiny, ticked-off tater tot was not pleased. But when his mom told him he was a good boy and she loved him very much, all was forgiven.
Happy National Pet Month to all our good boys and girls—we love you this month, and every month of the year.

A special film screening as Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Month winds down and Pride month begins!
The film is a documentary on the life of pioneering Asian American burlesque performer, dancer and cult film star Tura Satana called TURA!, and takes place Friday, May 29, 2-4 p.m., at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St.,Cindy Pritzker Auditorium, lower level.
Satana faced incredible odds as a Japanese American woman growing up in post-World War II Chicago but became a cultural icon and entertainment innovator by sheer force of will. This film is a celebration of the life and work of a remarkable woman who literally kicked down the doors of pop culture and whose story serves as a wonderful bridge between the AANHPI and Pride month festivities.

The party continues with party animal, Chica.
Her pet mom, Donna, interrupted Chica to take this photo—while the pup was having a little “me time.” That interruption turned Chica from chill and cheerful to chilly and churlish. Donna did not appreciate Chica’s cheekiness. Happily, Chica chose to be chipper and got back to her “me time.” Afterwards, they shared a chimichanga and had a chuckle about the whole thing.

Our celebration continues with Cecil, a 4-year-old French bulldog who is obsessed with tennis balls. His pet parent, Katy, says "Sometimes he will climb on the back of the couch to drop a ball on my head, to let me know it's time to play. He loves going to doggie daycare to see his doggie friends and enjoys going on walks to check the neighborhood 'pee-mail.'" Like the Friends of the Edgewater Library, Cecil is very community-minded. Good boy.
