🌺"El Día de los Mu***os" in Spanish Class!🌺

At Marshall Middle School, our students had a fun week exploring the cultural traditions of this holiday and were introduced to delicious, traditional pan de mu**to (sweet bread) paired with warm hot chocolate. Students in all grades participated by creating projects that focused on:

The history and cultural significance of the holiday

The meaningful ofrendas (altars) and their essential elements

The winter arrival of the monarch butterflies in Mexico 🦋

GRACIAS for supporting a vibrant week of learning and celebrations in Spanish class!

Planting seeds for the future! 🌱👩🏾‍🎓🧑🏻‍🎓

Yesterday’s AVID field trip took 7th and 8th grade AVID students to Blackhawk Technical College, Peace Park, and U-Rock (UW-Whitewater at Rock County.)

We were able to show students college campus options closer to home and help them realize higher education isn’t just a distant dream.

Students heard about classes they can take in high school that will give them college credits. How great is that?

They loved seeing all the hands on and real life learning opportunities that are waiting for them.

Check out our AVID kids tackling a note taking and following notes activity today! ✏️

The task was to create a craft using specific resources, write down key notes for a partner to follow, and then test a partner to see if they could follow the steps and re-create the craft. 🧶

Some nailed it, and some called it “rage-bait” but what counts is that we had a lot of teachable hands-on moments!

By the end of this unit, ALL of them will be taking and using their notes much better! 📝 🌟

The School District of Janesville is proud to recognize Marshall Middle School special education teacher ANNA FISH as an Emergent Teacher of the Year award recipient for the 2025-2026 school year!

A graduate of the UW-Madison with dual certification in K-12 Special Education and K-9 Elementary Education, Anna has made an impact at Marshall. After spending two years teaching seventh-grade special education, she stepped into year three as an eighth-grade special ed teacher and instructional manager.

One of the people who nominated Anna for this award noted her "incredible organizational skills, tech-savvy approach and commitment to collaboration make her a driving force.” Another nominator said, "Her strong leadership has turned her Professional Learning Team (PLT) into one of our most effective teams, leading the charge as 'early adopters' in using formative data to drive student growth."

Anna noted collaboration with her co-workers as vital to the success of Marshall's students and to the district as a whole.

Thank you, Anna, for your outstanding contributions to our SDJ students, families and community! We are lucky to have someone as talented and dedicated as you on our team!
