Don't recognize some of the names on your ballot? Here's how you can research candidates and measures before you fill out your ballot!

📃 Check the official voter guide for candidate statements and nonpartisan explanations of measures. Voter guides can be found at:
• California: voterguide.sos.ca.gov
• Riverside County: voteinfo.net
• San Bernardino County: elections.sbcounty.gov
• Nonpartisan Guides and Information: vote411.org and bollotpedia.org

🙋 Check primary sources.
• Read candidates' official websites and filed statements.
• Check the candidates' endorsements (listed on their official website)
• Look at the candidates' voting records on the legislature's website or a nonpartisan tracker.
• Congress: congress.gov/roll-call-votes
• California Legislature: calmatters.digitaldemocracy.org

👀 Look out for misleading framing! While your researching, look for...
• Loaded or exaggerated wording compared to official statements.
• Missing context, like statistics with no time frames, comparison, or source.
• Cherry-picked quotes that don't explain context. These quotes are sometimes picked to make candidates look bad, but with the full context, they aren't actually that bad.
• Emotional bait in advertisements and on social media. Some media is intended to get a strong emotional response from you by cherry-picking, leaving out important context, or sometimes even just lying.
• "Paid for by" fine print on mailers. Mailers are required to show what organization or person paid for them, which can reveal information about who is supporting the campaign.

Know what you're voting for! Don't forget to research you ballot before you fill it out.

• Congreso: congress.gov/roll-call-votes

This Halloween, Reach Out urges the Inland Empire to say “Boo to DUI” and choose sober rides to keep families and neighborhoods safe. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of crash deaths on Halloween night in 2023 involved alcohol. Together, we can change that.

Plan ahead:
• Choose a sober driver
• Schedule a rideshare
• Use public transit

If you plan to drink, do not drive — even a small amount of alcohol can slow your reaction time. If you see a suspected impaired driver, call 911 so law enforcement can respond and protect others.

Reach Out is committed to protecting our communities. Let’s look out for one another and make this a safe, healthy Halloween for everyone. Choose a sober ride today.
