The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has three separate uniformed and sworn divisions each of which have different primary job duties, including Law Enforcement, Court Security and Corrections. The Champaign County Sheriff's Office has established this social media site for use by the Sheriff's Office to distribute information to the community in a timely fashion. YOUR MONTHLY SCAM REMINDER

The Sheriff’s Office and other legitimate law enforcement agencies will NOT call you and demand payment by gift card or cryptocurrency because you supposedly have a warrant or missed jury duty.

Honestly, we’re still using an Excel spreadsheet for scheduling. The idea that we’re technologically advanced enough to accept crypto is pretty ambitious.

A few things to remember:
- NEVER give out sensitive personal information over the phone, including your Social Security number or driver’s license information, to an unsolicited caller.
- If something feels off, hang up. Don’t engage, don’t panic, and don’t let the caller transfer you to “the right people.”
- If you’re concerned the call might be legitimate, look up the agency’s official phone number yourself and call them directly. Don’t use a number provided by the caller.

Scammers rely on fear and urgency to get you to act before you think. Take a breath, hang up, and verify independently.

No legitimate warrant gets paid off with an Apple gift card.

Urbana Township (IL) - On Friday, October 9th, 2026, at approximately 1:18pm, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office responded to the 2400 block of East Oregon Street in Urbana Township, Illinois following a report of a residential structure fire.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that all occupants had safely evacuated the residence and that no injuries were reported.

The Edge-Scott Fire Protection District, Urbana Fire Department, Philo Fire Protection District and the St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the fire. Carle Arrow Ambulance also responded, along with members of the Specialized Investigative Fire Team (SIFT) and the Illinois Office of State Fire Marshal, who are assisting the Champaign County Sheriff's Office with the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.

At this time, no further details are being released as the investigation remains active. Additional information will be provided when appropriate.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office appreciates the assistance and cooperation of the responding agencies.

💊 Got old prescriptions taking up space in your medicine cabinet? Time to get rid of them safely.

On Saturday, October 24, Walmart and Sam’s Club are partnering with law enforcement agencies across the country for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members can stop by a participating local Walmart or Sam’s Club to safely dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted medications.

Proper medication disposal helps prevent prescription drug misuse and keeps potentially dangerous medications out of the wrong hands.
