Urbana Arts and Culture Program Enriching the lives of our community through arts, culture, and engagement.

By interacting with the City of Urbana, you agree to the terms of the City's social media policy: https://www.urbanail.gov/home-page/page/follow-us-social-media. In 2008, the Urbana Public Arts Program was established by the Urbana City Council to foster a city where all residents - emerging artists, established artists, and "non-artists" alike - can engage in the arts and where artists can thrive and feel valued. The program encompasses a wide variety of art forms, including music, theatre, visual arts, dance, creative writing, film/video, crafts, performing arts, spoken word, landscape architecture, and emerging media. Through public support for the arts, the City of Urbana increases opportunities for the creation of art, thereby enhancing the quality of life, economic development, citizen participation, cultural awareness, and the overall vibrancy of the community. The program is advised by the Urbana Public Arts Commission, a nine-member volunteer advisory board. Commissioners represent various segments of the community and have experience, expertise, and/or interest in areas including the arts, art education, planning, neighborhood organizing, entertainment, and business. Members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council and are chosen from a diverse range of backgrounds.

We are proud to partner with Bazaar Urbana for their first-ever music & arts fest. This event is especially meaningful because it highlights Urbana’s beautiful Boneyard Crossing and celebrates homegrown creatives from right here in our community. We love to see it!

Thank you to everyone who joined Urbana Arts and Culture Program for our Meet the Muralist event with selected artist, Jose Vazquez!

We had a great evening welcoming community members of all ages to meet Jose and learn more about the Urbana, Illinois - City Government sponsored new mural project at 115 W. Main Street. Visitors shared words they associate with Urbana, offering ideas and inspiration for Jose as he begins developing the mural design.

A special thank you to the Urbana Arts & Culture Commission, the 115 W. Main Mural Review Committee, 40 North 88 West, and property owner Mike Hosier of R Rentals for their partnership and support in bringing this project to life. Thank you also to Common Ground Food Co-op for hosting us, and to everyone who came out and contributed!

We’re excited to see this mural take shape in Downtown Urbana this fall.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project moves forward! #
