Today would be a good day to NOT burn outdoors! Strong wind, dry fields = bad idea!

🌾🔥 Dry conditions and harvested fields can fuel fast-moving grass and brush fires, putting homes, livestock, structures and farm equipment at risk.

Have a farm fire safety plan. Know your evacuation routes, livestock relocation areas and how firefighters can access your property.

A little prevention can go a long way to help with a safe and successful harvest season.

🚜🌽 Harvest season is upon us! 🌽🚜

As farmers and farm equipment head out on the roads, it’s important for everyone to do their part to share the road safely. Slow-moving farm equipment can take up more space and may travel much slower than other vehicles.

Remember to:
✅ Stay alert
🚜 Watch for slow-moving vehicles
⏳ Be patient
🐢 Slow down
↔️ Maintain a safe following distance
⚠️ Pass with caution
🛣️ Share the road safely

Let’s all work together to make this harvest season a safe one for our farmers and our community! 🌾

Harvest season is upon us and now is the time to check your fire extinguishers!

It is recommended to keep a 10 pound ABC dry chemical extinguisher in the cab and a 20 pound ABC extinguisher mounted at ground level on the outside of combines and tractors.

If a fire occurs, always call 911 immediately!

There is going to be a lot of road construction in the area over the next few months. Please be cautious and alert as you drive through these construction zones for your safety and the safety of the workers on the road!

🚌 The big yellow buses are back on the roads! 🚌

As kids head back to school, remember they are most at risk when approaching or leaving the school bus.

🚗 Slow down when you see a school bus.
🛑 Stop when the bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
👀 Watch carefully for children crossing the road.

Let’s all do our part to help keep Illinois students safe this school year! 🎒

Today, we witnessed the meaning of mutual aid!

When the call went out, departments and emergency personnel from across the region answered. They came not for recognition, not for applause, but because that is what firefighters do.

We would hate to try and list every responding agency and risk leaving someone out. But collectively, we extend our sincere thanks to every firefighter, every emergency responder, every dispatcher, every utility worker, every law enforcement officer, and every person who played a part in today’s response.

Your courage, coordination, sacrifice and service do not go overlooked. In a moment when West Quincy needed help, you showed up.

And for that, this community is deeply grateful.
