Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we stand together to raise awareness and protect some of our community’s most vulnerable residents from abuse, neglect, exploitation and financial scams.

Oneida County remains committed to ensuring our seniors have the information and resources they need to stay safe and maintain their independence. That’s why the Oneida County Office for the Aging and 50 Forward Mohawk Valley are hosting two Elder Abuse Awareness and Prevention sessions today focused on identifying scams, recognizing warning signs and understanding what steps seniors can take if they become victims.

📍 Morning Session: 9:30 a.m. – Noon
Parkway Recreation Center
220 Memorial Parkway, Utica

📍 Afternoon Session: 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.
6734 NY State Rt. 13, Verona Beach

Educational materials will also be available at both locations.

To recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and show support for our senior community, the Oneida County Office Building and Parking Garage in downtown Utica will be illuminated in purple this evening.

Knowledge is one of the strongest tools we have to prevent exploitation and protect our loved ones. I encourage seniors, caregivers and family members to attend and help spread awareness.

Today we celebrate Flag Day and honor the Stars and Stripes that have proudly represented our nation for nearly 250 years.

The American flag is a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, unity and opportunity. It serves as a reminder of the generations of Americans who have defended our liberties and worked to build a stronger nation.

As Oneida County joins in commemorating America's 250th anniversary, Flag Day gives us an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and the values that continue to bring us together.

Happy Flag Day, Oneida County! God bless our community, and God bless the United States of America.
