ON HOLD - CDV - Believe it or not this image actually has a military connection. Typical baby shot but on the reverse is the inscription in near period ink "Wadsworth Ramsay Smith / son of / Bvt. Lt. Col. Henry / Warren Smith and Virginia McBlain Smith / about 1865". Smith enlisted as a Captain in Sept., 1861 and was commissioned into the US Volunteers Adjutant General Department. He was mustered out in August, 1867 and spent time after his discharge in the US service until his death in 1869. Unfortunately no uniform on this one. $59. (Postage Included - US Only)

ON HOLD - CDV - While not a soldier, a Rhode Island image showing a gentleman holding a Smith & Wesson No. 1 revolver. He has that traditional 'look' of the riverboat gambler from the silver screen more than a New England Gentleman. S&W shows much better in life with a glass than the photo here shows. $78. (Postage Included - US Only)

CDV - also added to the collection with the boar / Texas Army Rations image I posted yesterday. This appears to be taken by the same photographer as the boar CDV as the mount is identical along with the subject matter. This is a Texas Horned Lizard (H***y Toad and Horned Frog). and is the Texas State Reptile even though it isn't an amphibian. You have to wonder if these were also dished out as Texas Army Rations as the boar was. Just an interesting image to share.

ON HOLD - CDV - SOLDIER SEATED WITH DAUGHTER - Nice image of what I would assume as being a soldier with his daughter, holding her nice hat, no photographer's back mark. A bit blotchy on the back round areas. $78. (Postage Included - US Only)

Just a neat image that I've recently added to my collection. The remains of a wild boar shown with a sign that states "Texas Army Rations / in 1865 and 1866". The inscription on the reverse reads "All the difference there is / the meat stanks and the / picture don't". No photographer's back mark but would guess it is also in Texas.

CDV - 9TH VERMONT INFANTRY - Major Charles Jarvis - DOW - Boston, Mass photographer. Image 3/4 view of Jarvis in frock coat, arms crossed (same image on HDS site). Jarvis enlisted in May, 1863 as a Captain (promoted the same day to Major). In June he was commissioned into Co. D of the 9th. While on scout in New Berne, NC, on Dec. 1, 1863, Jarvis was wounded and died of his wounds the same day. $148. (Postage Included - US Only)

THOMAS PORTER SLAVE BUTTON - Thomas Porter was a slave dealer in the early 1800's. He clothed the slaves with buttons bearing either his initials (T.P.) or name (T. Porter) This is the latter. It is a dug button, place of recovery is unknown. The maker's backmark is English "I. Nutting / Covent Garden" and this company manufactured buttons from 1805-1840. Loop of the shank has been knocked off. $135. (Postage Included - US Only)
