INFORMATION RELEASE
Aggravated Assault – Memorial Park

At approximately 4:40 p.m. today, the Uvalde Police Department responded to Memorial Park regarding a reported stabbing.

Based on the preliminary investigation, two adult males became involved in an argument reportedly concerning a woman. During the altercation, one of the men produced a weapon and stabbed the other.

The victim was able to leave the immediate area and make contact with individuals attending a nearby gathering, who immediately called for emergency assistance.

Uvalde Police officers, Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office deputies, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders arrived at the scene. Emergency personnel began providing aid to the victim while law enforcement officers interviewed witnesses and gathered information regarding the incident.

The victim was subsequently airlifted to a San Antonio hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Officers quickly obtained a description of the suspected assailant and began searching the surrounding area. The suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody without further incident. The suspect will be booked into the Uvalde County Jail in connection with the aggravated assault.

The Uvalde Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident with the assistance of the Texas Rangers. Investigators are working to establish the complete sequence of events and circumstances that led to the altercation.

The proper use of our available resources, rapid communication, and coordination between responding agencies allowed us to quickly provide aid to the victim, gather critical information, locate the suspect, and take him into custody. Our community is best served when our public safety agencies work together, and that teamwork was evident in today’s response.”

At this time, we believe all individuals involved in this incident have been identified and accounted for, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information, including the identity of the arrested individual and applicable charges, will be released when appropriate and when doing so will not interfere with the investigation.
