🇺🇸 HONORING THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO SERVE! 🇺🇸

Service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. ❤️🤍💙

American Legion Post 109 was proud to be represented at Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s Annual Veteran Servant Leader Awards, a special ceremony recognizing veterans who have continued to make a difference in their communities long after their military service.

We are especially proud to recognize the following individuals for their dedication, leadership, and continued commitment to serving others:

🏅 Dennis Keys
🏅 William Sobeck
🏅 Robert Suhay
🏅 William Corner
🏅 Jim Kelly — with his wife, Laura Kelly, graciously accepting the award on his behalf.

A special shoutout to Post 109 Commander Roosevelt McKnight Jr., who had the honor of serving as Master of Ceremonies for this meaningful event! 🇺🇸

These individuals are shining examples of what it means to live a life of service. Their contributions to our veterans, our community, and our country deserve to be celebrated.

Thank you to Congressman Ciscomani for recognizing the incredible impact of our veteran servant leaders and for bringing our veteran community together for this special occasion.

It is always an honor to run into the NJROTC Cadets from the Vail School District! Looking sharp, as they ALWAYS do! Great job!

👏 Please join us in congratulating these outstanding honorees! We are proud to celebrate you and grateful for all you continue to do.

For God and Country. 🇺🇸

🚨❤️ ANSWERING THE CALL: A Night of Appreciation! 🚒🚓🚑

Last night, American Legion Post 109 had the honor of hosting our second annual First Responders Appreciation Dinner, an evening dedicated to the incredible men and women who answer the call when our community needs them most.

Different uniforms. Same purpose. ❤️🤍💙

From law enforcement and firefighters to EMS and all those who serve behind the scenes, we are grateful for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe.

A special thank you to Vilona’s Little Italy for catering a wonderful dinner, and to everyone who helped organize, decorate, prepare, and make this evening possible. It takes a village to create a night like this, and our Post 109 family showed up!

Most importantly, THANK YOU to our first responders and their families. Your service does not go unnoticed, and we hope this evening reminded you just how appreciated you are.

At American Legion Post 109, supporting those who serve is more than a mission—it’s who we are. 🇺🇸

📞 The call came in. You answered. Last night, it was our turn to serve YOU.

🇺🇸 Community, Kids & Connection — this is what it’s all about. 🏈

American Legion Post 109 was proud to open our doors and welcome the Desert Ridge High School football team as they traveled through our community. We had the opportunity to provide them with a place to gather, share a meal, and feel a little bit at home while on the road.

It was also pretty special to have former Chicago Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith in attendance! But one of our favorite moments was watching the players’ excitement and admiration as they checked out the aircraft on site. Seeing that kind of curiosity, respect, and connection between generations is exactly why moments like these matter.

Kids and community are two of the pillars that keep The American Legion strong, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to bring the two together.

A special thank you to Paul for making sure everything ran smoothly outside, including ensuring the charter buses had plenty of room to safely make their way in and out of the Post parking lot. It takes people working behind the scenes to make days like this possible, and we appreciate you!

And thank you to Desert Ridge Football for presenting Commander McKnight and Post 109 with a Certificate of Appreciation. The appreciation certainly goes both ways — thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your journey. ❤️🤍💙

Our doors are more than a place to gather — they’re a place to build community.

🇺🇸 Veterans Supporting Veterans 🇺🇸

American Legion Post 109 was proud to help sponsor this incredible opportunity through Battlefield to Backwoods, Veteran Outdoors, bringing Veterans together for a free outdoor adventure focused on connection, camaraderie, and simply enjoying time alongside others who understand.

Our very own Second Vice Commander, Sommer Noethlich, had the opportunity to participate in the event with her children and was featured in this ABC15 story. Sommer shared how getting outdoors—and doing it alongside fellow Veterans—can help rebuild that sense of connection and camaraderie that is so important after service.

This is exactly why supporting programs like this matters. Sometimes an adventure is about much more than getting outdoors—it’s about reminding our Veterans that the brotherhood and sisterhood of service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.

We’re proud of Sommer for representing American Legion Post 109, and proud that our Post could play a small part in making this experience possible for fellow Veterans. ❤️🤍💙

Take a few minutes to check out the story from ABC15! 👇

For Air Force security forces airman Joel Burdett, an invite from an elder veteran to go on a hunting trip in 2016 did more than fill a tag after a tough deployment. It eventually helped set the course for a new mission.
