🚨 SAFETY REMINDER: DRIVE SOBER! 🚨

Last weekend, CHP Redwood City responded to a two-vehicle crash into a guardrail, which caused minor injuries to the involved parties. One of the drivers was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

If you're going out this weekend and plan to drink, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange another safe way home. Driving impaired is never worth the risk. One bad decision can change lives forever. šŸ»

Enjoy your weekend, make responsible choices, and never drive impaired!

CHP Arrests Suspect in Bay Bridge Freeway Shooting

OAKLAND, Calif. – A California Highway Patrol investigation has identified two suspects and led to the arrest of one in a freeway shooting that injured a passenger.

On Sept. 26, CHP officers responded to a shooting on eastbound Interstate 80 west of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza. Investigators determined the shooting appeared targeted and retaliatory, stemming from a physical altercation in San Francisco. After the altercation, the suspects allegedly followed the victims onto the freeway and opened fire on their vehicle, striking a passenger in the leg.

Investigators with the CHP Golden Gate Division Major Crimes Unit identified the suspects as 19-year-old Olman Santiago Martinezaguilar of San Pablo and a 15-year-old boy from Richmond.

At about 6:15 a.m. Oct. 8, the CHP Golden Gate Division Warrant Service Team served search and arrest warrants at residences in Richmond and San Pablo. Officers arrested Martinezaguilar at his San Pablo residence and recovered a fi***rm they believe is associated with him. The juvenile suspect was already in custody on an unrelated matter.

Authorities booked Martinezaguilar into Santa Rita Jail on charges related to attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and other offenses.

ā€œAs California’s state police, the CHP is committed to protecting the public and holding people accountable for violence that endangers our communities,ā€ said CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos. ā€œThis arrest reflects our investigators’ dedication to identifying those responsible and keeping Californians safe.ā€

The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

This Maximum Enforcement Period is about more than enforcement. It’s about preventing the next tragedy.

From 6:00 p.m. October 2 through 5:59 a.m. October 3, CHP personnel of all ranks and assignments will be working throughout California, with a particular focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

In 2017, CHP Officer Mark Latulippe’s family experienced a devastating loss caused by an impaired driver. Their story is told in the Emmy Award-winning CHP documentary Falling — a powerful reminder of why this work matters and what can happen when someone chooses to drive impaired.

This MEP isn’t about how many citations are written or arrests are made. It’s about preventing crashes, saving lives, and making sure more families make it home safely.

Drive sober. Arrive alive.
