It is with deep sadness that the Congers Fire Department announces the passing of Past Chief and President William “Bill” Moreno, who recently completed his 65th year of dedicated service to our department.

Bill joined the department in 1960 and served as Chief from 1980 to 1981. Throughout his years with Congers, he held numerous positions, including Commissioner, President, Safety Officer, Treasurer, Secretary, and member of the Board of Directors.

For Bill, volunteer service was a family tradition. His father, Joseph, was a member of the department and served as Chief from 1951 to 1952. His son, Vincent, is also a member, and his granddaughter, Quinn, recently joined, continuing that tradition into a fourth generation.

Bill’s dedication to the Congers Fire Department and the community he served will never be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to the Moreno family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Service Arrangements:

Friday, November 6
Higgins Funeral Home, Lake Rd in Congers
Viewing: 5:00–9:00 PM
Firematic Service: 8:00 PM

Saturday, November 7
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

Rest in peace, Chief.

National School Bus Safety Week

The New York State Police reminds motorists that a school bus may be one of the safest ways for children to get to school, but passing a stopped school bus puts young lives at risk.

🚨 Stop for a school bus. Every time.🚨

• Stop when red lights are flashing and the stop-arm is extended.
• Slow down and watch for children near bus stops.
• Stay alert and keep your eyes on the road.

A few seconds of patience can save a life. Let's work together to keep New York's children safe.

It's time to refresh your emergency car kit! ⚠️🚗

Swap out your layers, replenish your first aid kit and stock up on fresh batteries and water.

Pro-Tip: Don’t leave plastic water bottles in a scorching trunk for months — swap them out regularly for fresh ones, or grab a few shelf-stable water pouches instead. ⬇️

VCFD representatives joined representatives of the West Nyack Fire Department, Clarkstown OEM, Rockland OFES, and the Rockland Technical Rescue Team this morning at Tilcon West Nyack.

Tilcon personnel provided a tour of the facility and led discussions on quarry operations, emergency response procedures, and site-specific considerations. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for interagency collaboration, familiarization, and coordination to help ensure an effective response to emergencies at the facility.

Thank you to Tilcon West Nyack for hosting and sharing their knowledge and expertise!
