County Engineer Pam Dingman has issued a warning advising drivers to exercise extreme caution when encountering flooded areas across the county.
It is difficult to determine the depth of water on a roadway from a distance, especially at night, and many people underestimate the power of flowing water when considering driving through what may look like shallow runoff. Vehicles can be swept from the roadway in less than a foot of water leading to emergency rescues and exposure to flood water contaminants including chemicals, oil, gasoline, refuse, and other health hazards.
If you encounter roads that have been closed, remember, Turn Around Don't Drown. If you encounter a road that should be evaluated for closure, please Turn Around, and then contact Lancaster County Engineering at 402-441-7681.
