Porter County CASA CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASAs represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court.

The Porter County CASA program is part of the Porter County Circuit Court. The program is designed to recruit, train, and support volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children right here in Porter County. Our mission is to help children find their way to a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers are appointed by the court magistrate to help determine the needs of these children and speak for them in court.

As Porter County CASA begins a new chapter, we want to recognize the many years our program was part of Family & Youth Services Bureau .

During that time, dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners helped CASA grow and supported our work advocating for children in Porter County.

We’re grateful to the many people who have been part of CASA’s story over the years, and we carry that history with us as we move forward. 💙

Today marks a new chapter for Porter County CASA.

As of October 1, Porter County CASA has officially transitioned from Family & Youth Services Bureau to the Porter County Circuit Court.

While our organizational home is changing, our mission remains the same: advocating for the best interests of children involved in the court system and ensuring their voices are heard.

We’re grateful for the many years of support that brought CASA to this point and look forward to continuing this important work in our community. ❤

Our CASA book club got to hear from the author herself! 📚

After reading Ashley Rhodes-Courter’s Three Little Words for a recent CASA book club, volunteers attending this year’s State CASA conference had the opportunity to hear Ashley herself as the keynote speaker.

It was a special way to connect the story we’d read together with the work our volunteers do supporting children and families. ❤

Becoming a CASA volunteer means stepping into situations that may be new to you. You aren't expected to know everything from day one.

CASA volunteers receive training before they begin and ongoing support from CASA staff along the way. You'll learn how to gather information, get to know the child and their situation, and make thoughtful recommendations to the court.

And you aren't responsible for making the final decisions—the judge does that.

Your role is to listen, learn, and advocate for the child's best interests. 💙

What does a CASA volunteer look like?

Some work full-time. Some are retired. Some are raising families. Some are quiet, while others are more outgoing.

In other words, there isn't one “type” of person who becomes a CASA.

You don't need a special background or education. You need a willingness to learn, listen, and advocate for a child who needs someone in their corner. 💙

Children involved in the court system face a lot of change.

Homes may change. Schools may change. There may be new professionals, new appointments, and new routines.

A CASA volunteer can be a consistent presence through those changes: someone who gets to know the child, stays connected, and continues advocating for their best interests. 💙
