Maddox Friend, a Vantage Career Center Welding Senior from Antwerp, is gaining valuable real-world work experience through our Career Advancement Placement (CAP) program at Zuber Welding and Fabrication, LLC!

Maddox shared that this experience at Zuber has played an important role in helping him work toward his pipe fitting certification, allowing him to apply what he's learned in the classroom to real-world projects.

His supervisor, Thomas Zuber, has nothing but positive things to say about Maddox, describing him as “a good welder and a great worker!” 👏

We're proud of Maddox for taking advantage of opportunities to sharpen his skills, gain industry experience, and prepare for a successful future!

A big thank you to Zuber Welding for investing in the next generation of skilled trades professionals!

MEET THE STAFF | Anna Baker

👋 Say hello to Mrs. Baker, our Early Childhood Education (ECE) Instructor and Preschool Director at Vantage Career Center!

Mrs. Baker has been part of the Vantage family for 9 years! Before stepping into her current role, she spent 10 years teaching at Lincolnview and also served as the Superintendent's Secretary right here at Vantage!

A graduate of Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Mrs. Baker earned her bachelor's degree in Music Education from Miami University, her master's degree in Music Education from Kent State University, and completed her career technical training at Bowling Green State University.

FUN FACT...Mrs. Baker plays the bassoon and even makes and sells her own bassoon reeds!

Mrs. Baker teaches her students a special lesson about “being a coffee bean.” ☕ Just as a coffee bean transforms the environment around it, she hopes her students learn that they, too, have the power to positively influence their surroundings, make a difference, and leave every environment better than they found it!

For Mrs. Baker, what she loves the most about Vantage is the atmosphere, sense of community, and purpose behind what we do. One of her favorite parts of the job is watching students from 13 different partner schools come together, build friendships, and grow into future professionals in their chosen industries.

Thank you, Mrs. Baker, for the passion, positivity, and dedication you bring to our ECE students and preschool every day! We're lucky to have you as part of the Vantage family!

From Crime Scenes to Traffic Stops — Our Criminal Justice Students Have Been Busy!

There’s never a dull moment in the Criminal Justice program at Vantage Career Center! Our students have been gaining valuable hands-on experience, from investigating mock forensic crime scenes to learning the proper procedures and techniques for conducting traffic stops.

Students also recently welcomed Christine Ulrich, Death Investigator with the Van Wert County Coroner’s Office, who shared insight into her role and the responsibilities involved in death investigations.

Experiences like these give our students a firsthand look at the many career paths within the criminal justice field while helping them build the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed for their futures!

👏 A big thank you to Christine for taking the time to share her expertise with our students!

It's been a busy week for our School Resource Officer, Deputy Gemmer, as we recognize both National Teen Driver Safety Week and National School Bus Safety Week!

On Monday, October 19, Deputy Gemmer teamed up with our Criminal Justice students to conduct seatbelt safety checks as students arrived at Vantage.

Here's what they found:

🚘 161 vehicles checked in the morning

⚠️ 22 drivers or passengers were not wearing seatbelts

✅ 86.3% seatbelt compliance rate in the morning

But here's the best part! After handing out suckers with informational cards highlighting important teen driving laws and reminding students to buckle up, Deputy Gemmer checked again that afternoon.

👏 Seatbelt compliance increased to 95%, with only 8 vehicles observed with unbuckled occupants!

A great reminder that a little education and awareness can make a BIG difference!

🚌 SHOWING APPRECIATION FOR OUR BUS DRIVERS!

Deputy Gemmer also took time to recognize the dedicated bus drivers from our 13 partner school districts who safely transport students to and from Vantage each day!

In honor of National School Bus Safety Week, she put together goodie bags as a small token of appreciation for the important role these drivers play in keeping our students safe.

❤️ A HUGE thank you to Deputy Gemmer for going above and beyond to promote safety, to our Criminal Justice students for helping with this initiative, and to all of our partner school bus drivers for everything they do!

Whether you're behind the wheel or riding along, safety is EVERYONE'S responsibility!
