The Van Wert Fire Department is hiring a Career Firefighter/EMT, and we’re looking for the right people. That could be you!

Training is preferred but not required. We will train you.

Starting pay is $47,424 - $54,043, and you can reach up to $66,326-$73,126 in 2 years. Other benefits include a 24/48 schedule, 5% annual raises under our IAFF contract, OP&F pension, full health benefits, and a family-cultured work environment. Lateral transfers are welcome.

Today we had the pleasure of visiting the preschoolers at First UM and showing them our fire truck and ambulance while also providing them with some fire safety tips.

🚒 New engine. Old tradition. One big welcome!

No, your glasses aren’t dirty—we’re keeping Engine 3 a little blurry until you can meet it in person. 😉

Join us as we welcome our new engine home with a push-in ceremony! This fire service tradition dates back to horse-drawn equipment, when firefighters pushed their apparatus back into the station by hand.

VWFD had a fun filled Fire Prevention Week with great weather! We finished out the week with the Prevention trailer at St. Mary’s Catholic for the 3rd graders, passing out smoke detectors to the kindergarteners there, and showing Engine 5 to the kindergarteners at VW ECC and giving them smoke detectors as well. Approximately 310 smoke detectors were handed out to Van Wert County kindergarteners through the No Child Sleeps Unprotected program! Thank you to the Van Wert County Foundation and to everyone that donates to the fund!

This morning we had the opportunity to visit Kingdom Connection Academy and take the 3rd and 4th graders through our fire prevention trailer as well as pass out smoke detectors to the kindergarteners. The kindergarteners presented us with some of their artwork they did as part of Fire Prevention Week.

The Van Wert Fire Department is holding civil service testing to establish our Firefighter/EMT eligibility list. If you've been thinking about a career in the fire service, this is your first step.

Congratulations to Alex Greutman on completing the Paramedic Program through Four County Career Center and passing his National Registry! Alex has put in a lot of hard work over the last year to achieve this goal. This is a great personal accomplishment and very beneficial to VWFD and the citizens we serve.

CEO student Noah Hillery had a save himself this weekend. While at supper with his Cross Country team, one of his teammates started choking. Hillery noticed that he was choking and performed the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the food. Today he was presented with a challenge coin from Chief Jones! Great job Noah!
