Our community is mourning the loss of Charles “Chuck” Riffe of Garrison.

Chuck was only 63 years old, and his passing is another heartbreaking loss for a family that has endured so much in recent months. In July, Chuck and Kathy lost their 21-year-old grandson, Charles Anthony Corns, as a result of an automobile accident.

There are times when words simply seem inadequate for the grief a family is experiencing. I ask everyone in Lewis County to join me in keeping Kathy and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead.

Chuck was a lifelong part of the Garrison community, and I know his loss will be felt by many friends and neighbors throughout Lewis County.

On behalf of Lewis County, I extend my deepest sympathy to Chuck's family and all who knew and loved him. May they find strength and comfort in one another, in their faith, and in the prayers of a community that mourns with them.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced one of the darkest days in its history. We watched in disbelief as nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Today, we remember those who never came home, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. Their sacrifice and selflessness continue to inspire us.

We also remember the unity our nation showed in the days that followed. Americans from every walk of life came together to support one another, proving that even in the face of tragedy, hope, compassion, and resilience are stronger than fear.

As we observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11, let us pause to honor the memory of those we lost, pray for their loved ones, and express our gratitude to the men and women who continue to protect and serve our communities every day.

May we never forget.

I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many individuals who have worked tirelessly to help clear our county roads after Tuesday's storms.

Thank you to the Lewis County Road Department, Lewis County Emergency Management, our first responders, local volunteer fire departments, and the many good Samaritans who stepped up to help with storm cleanup efforts.

One of the greatest things about Lewis County is our people. Time and time again, we come together, lend a helping hand, and support one another when times get tough.
