URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE!!!!

National Weather Service New Orleans LA
1051 AM CDT Thu Oct 15 2026.. FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING FOR ALL OF SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI AND PORTIONS OF SOUHTEAST LOUISIANA...

* AFFECTED AREA... Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana, East Feliciana, St. Helena, Washington, Iberville, West Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge, Assumption, St. James, Wilkinson, Amite, Pike, Northern Tangipahoa, Walthall, Southeast St. Tammany, Northern St. Tammany, Southwestern St. Tammany, Central Tangipahoa, Lower Tangipahoa, Northern Livingston, Southern Livingston, Western Ascension and Eastern Ascension.
.. CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE SATURDAY...
A strong cold front will quickly move through the area Friday afternoon. The front will be mostly if not completely dry as it moves through the area. Quickly after it moves into the Gulf much drier air will surge in behind it. In addition cooler air will move in along with strong northerly winds. On Saturday sunny skies and winds in the first 1500-3000 ft will be out of the same direction sllowing for efficient mixing. This will help to bring wind gusts of 15 to as high as 30 miles an hour across most locations along and north of I-10. This will also lead to even drier air mixing into the area helping to drop the RH into the mid to lower 30% range with some locations seeing the relative humidity just below 30%. This will combine with current D1 and D2 drought conditions across all of southwest Mississippi and much of southeast LA along and northwest of a line from Thibodaux to Franklinton. This could provide ample fuel for wildfires. The combination of breezy to gusty winds, current drought conditions, ample fuel, and very dry conditions will allow any fire that develops to spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

September was a productive month for our department, with crews responding to more than 50 calls. Beyond emergency response efforts, personnel dedicated time to training and participated in several community events. We are proud to serve a community that continues to support us, and that commitment drives everything we do.

August didn’t give our crews a break. 50 calls — and not the easy kind. We handled large structure fires, pushed through intense heat, and even responded to a small personal airplane crash. Every time the tones dropped, our firefighters showed up ready to work.

And while running calls, we still put in the time to get better. Our members spent two full days in underwater search and recovery training with Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery, sharpening skills for the kind of missions where precision and teamwork matter most.

This is what commitment looks like. This is what service looks like. Washington Parish firefighters don’t just answer calls — we prepare, we train, and we show up when it counts.

This week, our firefighters spent two days sharpening their search and recovery skills with hands‑on training led by Mark Michaud of Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery.

Mark walked our crews through the fundamentals of underwater search operations and the critical steps they can take before his team arrives to make these missions safer, faster, and more efficient.

Our department has already assisted Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery on multiple scenes this year, and joint training like this strengthens teamwork and coordination when seconds matter.

This is just the beginning—more joint trainings are on the way as we continue building strong partnerships to better serve Washington Parish.

Attention Fire District #6 residents. As we all are aware, right now our area has seen little rainfall the past several weeks and what little bit we have received, the ground soaked up quickly. We are currently under a burn ban in Washington Parish due to these dry conditions. We ask that if anyone sees a potential vegetation/woods for fire to please contact 911 immediately so that our crews can get a quick jump on it to prevent it from becoming a large fire.

The month of June saw our crews engage in a multitude of operations, responding to an array of calls that tested our capabilities. These ranged from routine emergencies to critical incidents such as a saw dust silo fire and support provided to WPSO during two separate drowning incidents. Our sincere thanks go to Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search & Recovery for their unwavering support and commitment to our parish, representing a crucial partnership. As the heat wave continues, we urge the public to take necessary precautions to stay safe and hydrated.
