We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Captain K9 Kid, a dedicated member of our police force and a beloved companion to Lt. Small. Captain Kid played an invaluable role in protecting his handler and serving our community.

Despite receiving routine medical screenings and care, Captain Kid faced unforeseen medical issues that ultimately led to his passing. His contributions to our department and many others will always be appreciated.

We extend our sincere condolences to Lt. Small and his family during this difficult time. The bond between a K9 and their handler is truly unique.

Rest easy, K9 Captain Kid. Your watch is over. We are grateful for your service.

**PUBLIC NOTICE**

**Traffic Safety Concerns: Southbound Turning Lane in Front of Circle K on Cleveland Highway to turn left going towards Varnell Elementary**

The Police Department has received multiple concerns from the community regarding vehicles traveling northbound on Cleveland Highway that enter the designated southbound left-turning lane in front of Circle K. Motorists have reported that this usage creates conflicts and safety concerns with those properly using the lane to turn left onto GA Highway 2, potentially increasing the risk of serious collisions.

Officers will conduct concentrated patrols and monitor traffic conditions at this location, particularly during peak morning and afternoon travel times, but not limited too. Appropriate enforcement action will be taken against any observed violations, consistent with Georgia traffic law.

Cleveland Highway is a state route, and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is responsible for lane markings, signage, access management, and additional traffic engineering measures to improve safety. GDOT makes all decisions regarding roadway design and modifications on any state roadways.

The Police Department appreciates residents and daily commuters who report roadway safety concerns. We will continue to monitor this location.
