Proud of our own Lieutenant Lee for completing Fire Officer 1 training last week at King County Fire Training Consortium! πŸŽ‰
Fire Officer 1 builds the leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that company officers rely on every shift, from running a crew to managing an incident scene.
Congratulations, Lieutenant Lee, and thank you for investing in your crew and our community. πŸ‘

Last week, members of our consortium took another step forward in their professional development by attending Fire Officer 1 training.

This important course prepares experienced firefighters with the foundational leadership, administrative, and supervisory skills needed to serve as first-line company officers. Based on the NFPA 1021 standard, Fire Officer 1 focuses on crew supervision, operational readiness, incident scene management, and unit-level administrative responsibilities.

Congratulations to all who participated. We are proud of your dedication to continuous learning and leadership excellence!

πŸ•— Friday, October 9 at 8:00 AM to Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 AM

Please note this was rescheduled from Tuesday, October 6. Crews are replacing a damaged transmission pole on Maury Island before storm season, and the work can't be broken into shorter outages.

If you or someone in your home relies on electricity-powered medical equipment (ventilators, dialysis equipment, oxygen concentrators, infusion or feeding pumps, infant apnea monitors, or suction machines), please plan now. Twenty-four hours is longer than most battery backups will last.

Call us at VIFR at 206-463-2405 if you know you'll be needing some extra assistance or want to talk through a plan for the outage.

🩺 Call your medical equipment provider this week about backup options

🏠 Arrange a place to stay with power if you need one

πŸ”‹ Charge backup batteries, phones, and devices Thursday night

πŸ‘‹ Check in on neighbors who may need a hand

Using a generator? Run it outdoors only, well away from doors, windows, and garages. Carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly.

PSE's Medical Status Program provides outage notifications for customers who rely on life-support equipment. Learn more and register at pse.com/medical

Ferry Service Update from VIFR πŸš’β›΄οΈ

We know many of you have seen that the north end ferry is currently out of service, and we've been getting calls. Here's what you need to know:

βœ… VIFR is in direct communication with Washington State Ferries operations.

βœ… The south end ferry at Tahlequah is running, and emergency vehicles have priority loading.

βœ… We can confirm that we have access off island for patients who need emergency care.

Your emergency response is not affected. If you have an emergency, call 911 as you always would. We'll be there.

For sailing updates and schedule information, please check the WSDOT app or wsdot.wa.gov/ferries. We'll share any changes that affect emergency services here.

Thanks for looking out for each other, Vashon. πŸ’™
