VYFS Brings National Youth Mental Health Virtual Workshop Series to Vashon
November 3rd 6-8pm
November 10th 6-8pm
November 17th 1-3pm
November 24th 6-8pm

Vashon Youth and Family Services (VYFS) is proud to present Let's Talk: Supporting Youth Mental Health, a series of four virtual workshops led by experts from The Jed Foundation (JED) this November.

Supporting the mental health of young people is a shared community effort. These free workshops are designed for educators, healthcare providers, nonprofit professionals, coaches, parents, caregivers, and anyone who cares about the well-being of youth. Participants will gain practical tools to recognize signs of distress, have meaningful conversations about mental health, and better support young people who may be struggling.

The Jed Foundation is a national nonprofit dedicated to protecting the emotional health of teens and young adults and preventing su***de. Through partnerships with schools, colleges, districts, and community organizations nationwide, JED provides evidence-based resources, training, and guidance that strengthen mental health support systems and connect young people with the help they need.

"We are excited to bring JED's expertise directly to our community," said Belinda Olvera-Jovanovich, Outreach and Engagement Manager. "You don't need to be a mental health professional to make a difference. Knowing what to look for, how to start a conversation, and where to connect someone with support can have a profound impact on a young person's life."

The workshop series aims to empower community members with knowledge and confidence while fostering a shared commitment to supporting youth mental health and su***de prevention. By learning together, participants can help create a stronger network of support for young people both on and off Vashon Island.

John Craigie Band w/ Marley Hale
Vashon Theatre
Friday, December 4, 7pm

Debra Heesch Community Productions is thrilled to finally welcome John Craigie back to Vashon Island! And that’s not all...he’s bringing the full band, and special guest Marley Hale! It’s sure to be a wonderful night of live music, and all ages are welcome!

Ticket Prices:
$37 in advance (general admission)
$42 on the day of show (general admission)
A dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank.

For over a decade, John Craigie has made music that brings people in, not with spectacle but with sincerity and songs that feel like conversations.

His new album I Swam Here, out February 6, 2026 on Zabriskie Point Records, was written and produced by Craigie and recorded between New Orleans and Astoria. Seven tracks were cut at Deslonde St Studios with musicians handpicked by Sam Doores of The Deslondes, including Howe Pearson, Max Bien Khan, Jonny Campos, and a guest appearance from Desiree Cannon. Longtime collaborator Anna Moss appears across much of the record. The remaining tracks were finished at the Rope Room in Astoria, carrying over the same spirit and palette. The cover art, painted by Brittany Schall, nods to the design of mid century samba and jazz records.

The album’s singles trace the path of its making. “Fire Season,” engineered by Bart Budwig, was one of the first songs written and features Cooper Trail, Nevada Sowle, Luke Ydstie, and Jamie Greenan. “Dry Land” was reworked in Astoria after early New Orleans sessions didn’t feel right. “Edna Strange,” inspired by Marty Robbins, is the only track where Craigie plays steel string acoustic, with Max Bien Khan on nylon string leads and a trio vocal arrangement in place of Moss’s harmonies.

Following 2024’s Pagan Church with TK & The Holy Know-Nothings, which spent six weeks at #1 on the Americana Albums chart, I Swam Here feels both expansive and intimate, shaped by the musical history of the Gulf Coast and the stillness of the Pacific Northwest.

Craigie remains a tireless live performer, touring throughout the U.S., Europe, and Australia, appearing at festivals like Newport Folk, Pickathon, Edmonton Folk Festival, and High Sierra, and sharing the stage with artists such as Langhorne Slim, Sierra Hull, Gregory Alan Isakov, Brett Dennen, and Jack Johnson. His annual Tour donates $1 from every ticket sold to regional nonprofits, and his John Craigie On The River trips on the Tuolumne and Rogue rivers have become cherished gatherings for fans.

I Swam Here is a grounded, collaborative step forward, blending New Orleans grit with Pacific Northwest quiet, and showing a songwriter still widening the world of his music.

About Marley Hale –
Born in Texas and raised in Northern California, Marley Hale’s musical influences followed: Texas’s deep, country and western swing roots met San Francisco’s folk and rock legends. The result: classic country tropes, turned on their heads through a switching of roles or a repossessed identity; delicate, revelatory explorations of what it means to be a friend, lover, or neither; and second person addresses to herself that offer both an onlooker’s and her own perspective. After California, Hale spent time in Austin, TX and Portland, OR before relocating to Brooklyn, NY, where she recorded her debut EP, By My Own Ways, released July 2024, and began touring the US and Canada. After spending the better part of three years on the road, she moved back home to Austin, where she now resides.

A Dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank. Their mission is to work in partnership with our community to increase Vashon island’s food security and connect people to the supporting resources they need to thrive. We envision a diverse and inclusive island community in which everyone’s basic needs, such as food, clothing, housing, personal safety, and healthcare, are met.

This is a Debra Heesch Community Productions event, powered by Shunpike.
