The energy at the Mermaid March was absolutely incredible this weekend. From the elaborate costumes to the lively village atmosphere, there was so much to document. We had a blast being on the ground to capture all the vibrant details that make this community event so special.

POV: 30 seconds of run-and-gun small business storytelling 📸🏃♂️
You don’t always need a massive crew to produce agency-level content. Sometimes the best move is keeping it lean and moving fast.
Here’s a quick look at how I covered in a single shoot day and walked away with a full gallery of strategic content.
☘️ Tip 1: Batch seasonal content
We knocked out St. Patrick’s Day promos across multiple shops in one sweep. Tight macro shots at then styled our model with green pieces from while she grabbed a matcha from One theme, multiple businesses, everyone wins.
🧜♀️ Tip 2: Use what’s already around you
March is “Mermaid Month” at the harbor, so we leaned into the setting. Bright blue and purple boba drinks, ocean backdrop, instant Spring Break energy. The environment does half the storytelling if you let it.
👑 Tip 3: Put real people in the frame
People connect with people. We captured .vta owner portraits for International Women’s Day, highlighted the heart behind Boba by the Sea as the shop moves into its next chapter, and shot editorial-style photos of the owners with their dog Poppy (who also happens to be the name of their newest wine).
🏪 Tip 4: Capture the space, not just the product
Context sells the experience. Along with the portraits, I photographed the interiors of Deep Sea Wine and Golden Hour Goods so the website shows what it actually feels like to step inside these places. Spaces tell their own story.
🌅 Tip 5: Don’t forget the big picture
Run-and-gun doesn’t mean cutting corners. A quick sunset drone flight gave us the wide harbor panoramas needed to refresh the Ventura Harbor Village website and upcoming print materials.
One fast shoot. A lot of usable content.
Follow along if you want more behind-the-scenes looks at how we plan and capture content like this, or reach out if you’re curious how this kind of strategy could work for your business.
POV from the field while covering a neighborhood cleanup event with Harrison & Sons.
Events like this move fast — trucks rolling in, residents unloading bulky items, crews directing traffic, and a lot happening all at once. Our job is to move with it and capture the moments that tell the story of the day.
Throughout the event we were shooting both photo and video that will be used across web, print, and social media. What you’re seeing here are those moments as they were captured in real time.
This is a behind-the-scenes look at how the day unfolded while we were out documenting it.
More field POV content coming soon.

Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura Earns Highest Quality Distinction with a Five-Star Rating
Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura has earned a five-star rating, the highest ranking possible, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This five-star designation places Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura among the top 15 percent of hospitals in the nation. It is also the only hospital in Ventura County to receive five stars.
This is the first time Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura has achieved a five-star rating on this report. The new figures are based on data collected in 2021 and 2022, during the height of the pandemic and an especially stressful time for healthcare providers and hospital staff.
“This five-star rating demonstrates the dedication and commitment of our physicians and staff to provide the highest quality healthcare — even under the most difficult circumstances. I am proud of our team for earning this prestigious recognition,” said Mick Zdeblick, President & CEO, Community Memorial Healthcare.
As part of its commitment to continuous improvement, Community Memorial physicians, staff, and leaders are constantly measuring and monitoring care and seeking feedback from patients.
“This score represents thousands of people going the extra mile every day for our patients,” said Maureen Archambault, Vice President, Quality and Risk Management, Community Memorial Healthcare. “Everybody is working together toward consistency of practice. We are looking for, and implementing, the most evidence-based practices in healthcare.”
The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating summarizes 47 different measures in five quality- of-healthcare categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. Hospitals are then assigned a single star rating based on their combined performance in each category. Hospitals report data to CMS through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program, Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program, Hospital Readmission Reduction Program, Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program, and Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program.
The overall hospital rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars; the more stars, the better a hospital performed on the five measures of mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timeliness and effectiveness of care.
The CMS Stars program helps the public understand how healthcare is measured and also helps hospitals learn about areas where they can improve the quality of the care they provide. The ratings offer consumers an easy way to compare hospitals’ quality and performance. The complete CMS report can be found online here.

Introducing a New Wave in Ventura County Healthcare
Community Memorial Healthcare Debuts New Master Brand
Community Memorial Healthcare, formerly Community Memorial Health System, is proud to debut a new master brand that better reflects the mission and values of the organization, as well as the breadth of services it provides across west Ventura County. The modernized brand includes a new logo, vibrant colors, and an updated naming architecture.
The brand, which officially launched January 22, 2023, provides a fresh look for Community Memorial, the locally-owned, not-for-profit health system of choice in Ventura County. The organization remains committed to its independent status and will continue to provide the exceptional care the community has come to know and trust.
“The goal of this project was to unify Community Memorial’s hospitals, health centers, programs and services under a single, highly recognizable umbrella with consistent presence across the county,” said Jamie Maites, Community Memorial Healthcare Vice President, Marketing & Development. “We wanted the look and feel of the brand to reflect our community and the high quality care we deliver.”
The new umbrella name, Community Memorial Healthcare, replaces Community Memorial Health System as the enterprise name. Other key name changes include:
· Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura, previously Community Memorial Hospital
· Community Memorial Hospital – Ojai, previously Ojai Valley Community Hospital
· Community Memorial Health Centers, previously Centers for Family Health and Midtown Medical Group
· Community Memorial Foundation, previously Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation
Community Memorial Healthcare’s new logo, a layered wave, is a nod to Ventura County’s coastal location. The layers symbolize the various parts of the organization — from physicians and caregivers on the front lines to those behind the scenes — all working together to deliver exceptional care. The logo colors were carefully chosen to represent caring (blue), wisdom and compassion (purple), and wellness and vitality (bright green). The wave will replace a number of disparate logos currently being used across Community Memorial’s locations and programs.
“A tremendous amount of research was done in the planning of this change,” said Mick Zdeblick, President & CEO, Community Memorial Healthcare. “We asked a lot of questions and received input from stakeholders, team members, and our community. We learned that residents are looking for a partner and advocate in their healthcare who will understand their needs and evolve to keep meeting them over time. This new brand represents our commitment to being that partner for our community.”
Community Memorial’s new website, mycmh.org provides a single virtual front door to all that Community Memorial Healthcare has to offer. Features of the new site include expanded information on services, physicians, and locations, as well as enhanced access to the patient portal, find a doctor tool, and free health risk assessments.
Community Memorial’s new brand launches in conjunction with a multimedia advertising campaign designed to showcase the new brand and share more about the organization’s philosophy.
