🎉 Head Start North Kick Off was a SUCCESS! 🎉

We had 80 people join us tonight, and we had SO much fun! Good food, lots of laughs, and an awesome ZooMobile visit from Jackson! 🐀🦨🐢

A HUGE thank you to the amazing people who helped make tonight happen:

🍎 Hy-Vee — thank you for donating the mashed potatoes and variety of apples!

🥩 Fareway — thank you for donating the corn, drinks, mac and cheese, and applesauce! And a special shoutout to Rich for getting us all rung up!

🍕 Pizza Ranch — thank you for the GREAT deals on all of our pizzas! And an extra-special thank you to the three guys who helped us carry all those pizzas out to the car.

🏠 Tea Community Hall — thank you for letting us use your space and helping make tonight possible!

🦁 Jackson with the ZooMobile — you did an amazing job with your presentation and the kids loved it!

We are so thankful for the businesses and community partners who continue to support our Head Start families. ❤️

We had a little bit of everything at our South Kick-Off Party!

We.....
Had a delicious meal of soup and sandwiches
Read Edible Colors
Tasted all kinds of colorful foods
Sorted fruit and veggie toys by color
Played on the foam climbers
and got some pretty great pictures with Charlie Coyote.

We were also excited to have the South Dakota Softball team join us! They talked with the kids about proper nutrition and how eating the rainbow helps fuel our bodies.

And with the softball team there, the kids got to hit LOTS of home runs!

A BIG thank you to Walmart Vermillion, Hy-Vee and Runnings Stores for donating the food and water for our event. We are so grateful for your support!

And when the rain decided to join us, Grace Baptist Church - Vermillion saved the day by opening up their space for us to use.

But the best part? We got to be together. ❤️

The kids played, families visited, everyone got to socialize, and there was plenty of laughing and smiling along the way.

That’s a pretty great way to start the Head Start year!

What a great way to kick off the 2026–2027 school year!

Our first USD Head Start all-staff meeting brought us back together for a morning full of learning, laughter, and connection!

We.....
🍉enjoyed a delicious fruit and bagel breakfast
🆕welcomed our newest staff members Kelly and Natasha
🤓received training on Reflective Supervision
🎂celebrated our September, October, and November birthdays (including our Grantee Specialist, Marlena!)
🏅recognized Shawna, Melissa, Shelly, and Bonita for their years of service to Head Start!

We also put our music and TV knowledge to the test with a fun competition naming TV theme songs and songs!

Most of all, it was a wonderful time to network, reconnect, and start the new school year together. We’re excited for all that this year has in store!

Here’s to a great 2026–2027 school year! 🐝💛

The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) proposes changes across 19 sections of the Head Start Program Performance Standards, many of them substantial. NHSA created an in-depth overview to help programs understand exactly what is being removed, replaced, or added.

In the document, we examine each section of the proposed rule, compare it to relevant Head Start Act citations, share Administration for Children and Families (ACF) cost estimates, and cover topics including eligibility and staffing, disability services, dual language learner requirements, health standards, and administrative cost caps.

Review it alongside the NPRM as you prepare public comments, which are due by October 6, 2026.
