At 2:21am 10/18/26 Penn Hills Station 224 was dispatched for a commercial fire alarm on Plum Street. 224 Eng. 1 arrived on scene and was met by a key holder who advised that he shut the water off but still heard water. 224 Eng.1, Oakmont Trk 216, Verona 285 Eng. and Penn Hills 222 Eng. crews examined the large warehouse and found water leaking from a 6 inch pipe in 4 spots of the building.
224 Deputy Chief, Oakmont Captain and key holder were able to turn off the 6 inch main pipe and the water was drained.
Key holder was advised and all units returned in service.

The saying “It takes a village…” is true even in the fire service.
Overnight, we were dispatched to a structure fire in Penn Hills. While we were operating on scene for many hours, this crew stepped in, alongside 3 other companies to help keep our community safe.

Thank you Allegheny Valley Volunteer Fire Company for keeping our corner of the community safe! We appreciate you!

25 years ago today our world changed.
As always when there is a fire and tragedy Firefighters, Police, and EMS do their duty and "run" to it.
This day was just the same, engines, ladder trucks, police cars and ambulances raced to the Twin Towers at 8:46AM. Then more responded at 9:03AM. Then at 9:37AM, a plane hit the Pentagon. Then at 10:03AM a plane went down in a field in PA saving it from a destination unknown to hit in DC.
Again Firefighters, Police, Ambulances raced to the scenes helping people to get out or searching for survivors.
In the coming days we learned that 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 EMS personal had lost their lives running to help in the Twin Towers.
You may be gone but never forgotten. 9/11/01

Since Penn Hills 224- Point Breeze and the former (Universal) Penn Hills 226 merged with their members we thought it was only right that we would take a moment and remember Joseph J. Craft.

On September 3, 2002, Firefighter Craft had returned earlier in the evening from his first night of Essentials of Firefighting training. Later that night, firefighters were dispatched to the report of a structural fire during an electrical storm. Firefighter Craft responded as a member of the crew of a support truck. The report of fire ended up to be a malfunctioning garage door opener in a house that had been struck by lightning. As the truck returned to the station, firefighters in the vehicle saw Firefighter Craft lay his head against the side of the truck and assumed that he was sleeping. Upon their arrival back at the station, they discovered that Firefighter Craft was unresponsive. Paramedics were called to the scene and an AED was applied. Despite these efforts, Firefighter Craft could not be revived and was pronounced dead on September 4, 2002.
