There is so much more to being a volunteer firefighter than putting out fires. We have a medical side if that is something you are interested in. Stop by or message us with any questions you may have!!!
Why do you see the firefighters at many ambulance calls?
Fire departments often assist with EMS calls because not every emergency happens where an ambulance can safely or efficiently reach a patient. Also, not every ambulance is sitting around every corner and available. Often times, local fire departments provide first responder level care until the ambulance arrives.
In situations such as yesterday, a deer hunter was injured approximately 200 hundred yards into very rocky, rugged terrain. So, firefighters from Stover Rural Fire Protection District willingly provided the personnel necessary to work along side Mid-Mo 30 to safely access, package, and extract the patient to the ambulance so Mid-Mo could provide treatment and transport to a safe landing zone for the MU2 air ambulance. The patient was then flown to a regional trauma center.
Fire and EMS work together to bring help to the patient, regardless of where the emergency occurs.
Mid-Mo appreciates the collaboration with all 15 of our local fire departments over our 965 square miles!
