Big thanks to the Alabama State Department of Education for bringing the BeProBeProud workforce simulator truck to VHHS Freshman Campus for a two-day visit! Students in Career and Technical Education classes at Freshman Campus and VHHS Main Campus got to experience what it's like working in some of the jobs that help keep our community running strong. Lots of inspired students and teachers!

Help us celebrate Rachel Dodson, our very own German teacher, on an incredible accomplishment!

After years of research, writing, studying, and a whole lot of hard work, Rachel has officially earned her Ph.D. in Germanic Studies from the University of Minnesota! 🎉👏

Diving deep into German language, literature, and culture, Dr. Dodson brings her passion for Germanic studies into all her classes at the FC and Pizitz!

Congratulations, Dr. Dodson! We are SO proud of you! 🎉🎉🎉

Y’ALL. If you haven’t heard of our INCREDIBLE CNP staff, let us introduce you. 👏

They’re the people who…

🎶 Play music to create good vibes in the Caf.

🥗 Create yummy, themed salads to go with each meal. (Have you tried the Asian Crunch Salad?! It’s GOOD.)

👋 Learn the names of everyone who walks through their doors—and call them by name. That’s 600+ people every day!

📸 Created a whole wall of pictures celebrating the people who enjoy their space.

🥓 Noticed that faculty and staff love gathering for breakfast on Friday mornings…so they added homemade biscuits, cheese grits, and Conecuh sausage EVERY Friday. Because they believe breakfast is a love language. ❤️

And now, they’ve earned some pretty BIG recognition:

🌎 International recognition!

South Korean Councillor Park and Alabama Representative Mike Shaw made a special visit to the FC Caf on Friday as part of Councillor Park’s tour of the United States. She’s visited New York. She’s visited D.C. And now…she’s visited the FC! 🇰🇷🇺🇸

And you may have even spotted her at last night’s football game! Because if you’re touring America, a stop under the Friday Night Lights feels pretty quintessential. 🏈✨

We are THRILLED to see Mr. Krontiras, Mrs. Walden, and Mrs. Lovin receive the recognition they so richly deserve!

They bring joy to the FC every single day—and make the Caf about so much more than food. They create a place where people feel known, welcomed, and happy to be together.

So here’s to our CNP crew:
100 on the wall. International visitors at the door. And 600+ names and faces they know by heart.

We’re pretty lucky to have them . ❤️

🎨🎶💃 It’s Arts Education Week—and we couldn’t be more thankful for our arts teachers! ❤️

So many of our freshmen start or end their day at Main Campus with one of our incredible performing arts teachers, and several of our arts teachers travel between campuses to make sure every student has the opportunity to participate in the arts.

At the FC, Mrs. Gillespie and Mrs. Troha spend their entire day helping freshmen discover, develop, and share their creativity.

🎨 Mrs. Gillespie pours her time and talent into Art 1, introducing students to the foundations of visual art—from history and concepts to techniques and hands-on creation.

💃 Mrs. Troha keeps the dance room moving as our freshman dance teacher and JV Rebelettes sponsor, working with everyone from beginners taking their first steps to serious dancers building skills for a lifetime.

🎤 And we love seeing Ms. Thomas and Mr. Stricklin make their way to the FC to lead women’s and men’s choir during 3rd and 4th periods!

These teachers do more than teach art, dance, and music. They create spaces where students create, perform, take risks, find their people, and discover what they can do.

And we’re already counting down to December and our grand performing arts showcase, Celebrate the Season! We can’t wait to see our students shine under the instruction of these dedicated arts professionals. ✨

The arts matter. Creativity matters. And our arts teachers matter BIG. ❤️

🤝 MONDAY MATTERS: CHOOSE UNITY!

We kicked off our first Monday Matters assembly of the year with a challenge for every Rebel: Choose UNITY.

📣 The JV Cheer Squad got us started with a rousing, unifying cheer—because what better way to kick off a lesson on unity than by getting everyone in the room cheering together?!

Then, Peer Helpers Collier Preskitt and Sanvi Singh introduced our first-quarter core value and put unity to the test! 🪢👀

Four groups. Blindfolds on. One rope. One goal. Students had to communicate, listen, trust, and work together to create shapes and letters they couldn’t even see!

Then, Dr. Mann gave us three reminders:

1️⃣ Unity begins with respect.
2️⃣ Look for common ground.
3️⃣ Avoid assumptions. Build common ground.

And the best way to build common ground? Ask questions. Listen. Understand.

Dr. Mann challenged students to learn one another’s history, heroes, heartbreaks, and hopes, and he shared some of his own with us.

Because unity doesn’t mean we’re all the same. It means we take the time to see, hear, and understand one another.

So this quarter, we’re making a choice:

CHOOSE UNITY. 🤝

BUILD COMMON GROUND.

BE THE REASON WE’RE STRONGER TOGETHER.

🎯 REPs are back!

Wednesday brought our first Rebel Engagement Period of the year! Each week, students sign up for the session that offers the intervention or enrichment they need based on their grades, missing work, upcoming assignments, and assessments.

But REPs aren’t just about catching up—they’re about choice, curiosity, and growth. Students get to exercise their minds in ways that match their needs, interests, and personal goals. 🧠💡

For our first REPs, students were busy:

✈️ Tackling a plane crash survival scenario in English with Dr. Walker
🔢 Exploring If…then statements in Honors Geometry with Mr. Eddleman
🗂️ Creating academic vocabulary flash cards for Geometry with Mrs. Mayhew
⌨️ Getting in 20 minutes of typing practice with Ms. Kouveras
🧬 Illustrating the characteristics of life in Biology with Ms. Little and Mrs. James
🦠 Practicing CER responses about viruses with Mr. Sonntag
📖 Watching an episode of Lord of the Flies with Ms. Roberson
📝 Getting in some Pre-ACT practice with Mrs. Hotten
…and SO much more!

Back-to-School at the FC 🎉📚

After six days at the FC, freshmen and teachers are loving that back-to-school feeling! 💙❤️

From morning carpool 🚗 to hallway high-fives 👋, classroom conversations 📝, and plenty of learning in action 📚, the FC is buzzing with energy, excitement, and connection!

We’re off to a great start! Here’s to a year full of learning, growing, connecting, and making memories together. ❤️💙
