In May, New Merkel House came alive with its very first Discover Japan program! Our Active Adults (55+) explored the delicate art of Chigiri-e, a centuries-old Japanese tradition, and crafted vibrant hydrangea collages from hand-torn washi paper. The experience was made even sweeter with delicious matcha tea and tasty treats. The excitement continues—join us for the next Discover Japan workshop on Wednesday, June 17, at 10:30am!🪻🍵

🌞 Summer 2026 is all about FUN! 🌟✨ NEW CAMPS ADDED!!

🎨Join our Art-Themed Summer Camps and let your imagination soar! 🖌️🎭 Perfect for kids who love to paint, draw, craft, and explore their inner artist. 🎨🌈 Located at the Vestavia Hills Civic Center for ages 6-12!

📝Creative Writing Camp for ages 9-13 during the week of June 15-19! Creative writing campers will utilize small group writing workshops to create a mini-memoir, a fictional short story, and a small collection of poetry. Camp runs from 8:30am-12pm, with drop-off available from 8–8:30am. Snacks and water are provided. Cost: $185 per camper. ✍️

🥋At Karate Camp, campers will learn the fundamentals of karate and several basic moves. Meetings will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For ages 6-12. It costs $250 per camper and the camp will run from June 2–July 9! 💪

Get ready for an action-packed summer! ☀️ Vestavia Hills Parks & Leisure Services is teaming up with VHHS to offer the 2026 1Rebel Sports Camps for kids of all ages! From baseball and basketball to soccer, volleyball, football, softball, wrestling, and more — there’s something for every young athlete! 💪🔥

📅 Camp Dates Include:
⚾ Baseball – June 1-4 (1st-5th grade)
🏀 Boys Basketball – June 1-3 (6th-8th grade) & June 22-25 (1st-5th grade)
⚽ Soccer – June 8-12 & June 15-19 (1st-8th grade)
🥎 Softball – June 8-10 (K-8th grade)
🤼 Wrestling – June 16-18 (K-6th grade)
🏀 Girls Basketball – June 16-18 (1st-8th grade)
⚽ Girls Soccer – June 16-19 (1st-6th grade)
🏈 Football – June 23-25 (7th-9th grade) & July 27-29 (1st-6th grade)
🏐 Volleyball – July 7-9 (2nd-8th grade)
🏈 Flag Football – July 27-28 (1st-8th grade)

📧 Participants will receive additional camp details via email the Sunday before camp begins.

⚽ Soccer campers: Check in at the VHHS stadium at 8:45am and bring tennis shoes, cleats, soccer ball, water bottle, sunscreen, and a packed lunch.

🏈 Flag Football campers: Check in at the VHHS stadium at 5:15pm and bring tennis shoes, water bottle, and sunscreen.

The Red Ball Program (Ages 5-8)
This program is designed to provide a fun introduction to tennis for children ages 5 to 8. It will focus on developing hand-eye coordination, agility, and the fundamental skills of tennis.

The Orange Ball Program
(Ages 8-10)
This program is designed for children under the age of 11 who have had an introduction to the sport of tennis. It aims to guide students into competitive tennis by continuing to develop their fundamental skills while introducing them to match play.

Juniors Development Program (Ages 11-18)
This program is designed for beginning juniors aged 11 to 18 years. It is ideal for those with limited match experience. The program emphasizes technique and strategy through engaging drills and match play. Participants will be grouped based on their skill levels.
