Bayou Bodcau recently hosted its National Hunting and Fishing Day at the Tom Merrill Recreation Area. In a highly successful partnership with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, the USACE Vicksburg District welcomed 1,545 visitors for a day dedicated to outdoor recreation, conservation, and water safety. Lead Natural Resource Specialist Gary Johnson coordinated 11 USACE volunteers to manage operations, ensuring a seamless experience for the families in attendance.

The event offered families and outdoor enthusiasts hands-on exposure to a wide variety of activities. Visitors participated in kayaking, archery, paintball, muzzleloader and sh***un shooting, frog catching, and fish identification. The crowd also enjoyed close-up encounters with hawks and a bald eagle, browsed handmade knives and woodworking, ate from local food trucks, and visited the USACE booth to learn about critical water safety practices.

Through these activities, the joint effort successfully connected the community with natural resources, conservation practices, and outdoor safety. This collaborative event achieved its core mission, sparking an interest in outdoor stewardship and safety that will endure through generations.

Our bridge inspection team continues to play a vital role in ensuring bridge safety and reliability, and they are quite literally hanging around the Mississippi River.

Recently, Jack Hinton, Sam Kirk, Jason Paschal and Logan Yann performed the routine and nonredundant steel tension member inspections by rope on the crane service bridges at Lock and Dam 5A and Lock and Dam 6 on the Mississippi River, in supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District 's bridge safety program. Just another day in the office for this crew!

The primary purpose of this hunt is to give back to our Veterans who have sacrificed much to protect the freedoms of our country as well as to regulate the deer herd to prevent overpopulation.

We’re delivering for communities and strengthening the economy by keeping our ports and harbors open, accessible, and ready to support the people and businesses that depend on them.

The contracted Dredge America has completed critical work at Lake Providence, Greenville, Rosedale (shown here), Yellow Bend, and Madison Parish Harbors and is now completing work at Vicksburg Harbor.

This work helps maintain reliable navigation, support commerce, strengthen supply chains, and keep goods moving along the Mississippi River.

We were excited to welcome Mississippi Valley Division (US Army Corps of Engineers) new Acting Commander, COL Melin, and Deputy Commander, COL Pence, aboard the Dredge Jadwin this week!

It’s always great to bring our leaders out to see the incredible work our crews are doing to keep river navigation moving. This week, we’re working close to home! That means our friends and neighbors in Vicksburg may just catch a glimpse of the Jadwin in action over the next several days.
