As 2026 begins to draw to a close, we pause to remember and celebrate the lives of two of Anchuca's most loyal friends and supporters, Nancy Neilsen and Victor LaGarde.

Nancy was a true friend of this house. She came back to us time and again over many decades, and each visit felt less like serving a guest and more like welcoming a beautiful soul back home. Her warmth and loyalty to Anchuca will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on through her soulmate Ray and their many family members and loved ones.

Victor was the same kind of friend, faithful and generous with his continuous support. He returned nearly every week with his family for Sunday brunch. We were lucky to count him among our regulars. His absence will be deeply felt, and his memory will live on through his amazing wife Glenda and their many family members and loved ones.

Anchuca is a place built on people, stories, celebrations, and rich experiences that remain long after each visit. Nancy and Victor are now both forever part of Anchuca's story. We're grateful for the time shared with each of them, and for their unwavering support of this house, whose Choctaw name means "happy home."

We’re honored and excited to share that Anchuca Historic Mansion and Inn has received the “Lodging of the Year Award” by the Mississippi Tourism Association!

Managing partner and co-owner Anna Kate Andrews accepted the award on Anchuca’s behalf on October 8, 2026 in Oxford, MS. Category winners were selected through a competitive process scored by independent judges from outside Mississippi.

Thank you to our guests, our dedicated Anchuca team members, and our incredible tourism partners at Visit Vicksburg, especially executive director Laura Beth Strickland. This award belongs to all of you!

We're honored by this recognition and more inspired than ever to continue enhancing our guest experience and preservation efforts. Every dollar Anchuca earns, and then some, is reinvested in the property so this uniquely American place can continue to be experienced for generations to come.
