Ganondagan State Historic Site Ganondagan State Historic Site stands at the location of what was one of the largest, most vital 17th-century Seneca towns until its destruction in 1687.

Today, it is a destination connecting visitors to the living culture & natural world of the Seneca. Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY stands at the location of what was one of the largest, most vital 17th-century Seneca towns until its destruction by the French in 1687. With the completion in Fall 2015 of the Seneca Art & Culture Center, Ganondagan now is a year-round destination for visitors to explore the nearly five centuries of artistic, archeological, cultural and historical artifacts, including works from many contemporary Indigenous artists. In addition to the nearly 3,000 square feet of interactive gallery space with 15 exhibits, there is also a 10-foot scale model of the full-size bark longhouse replica, open on the site from May 1-Oct. 31. The Center also includes an orientation theater, two classrooms, and a multi-purpose auditorium with flexible, roll-out theater seating and sprung floor. Outdoors, visitors can enjoy self-guided tours through beauifully-marked trails on the Site's 500+ acres. Ganondagan also acts as a resource for students and educators about the Iroquois Confederacy, or Haudenosaunee, and its message of peace. Every summer, Ganondagan’s Indigenous Music & Arts Festival brings more than 4,000 people from all over the world. Friends of Ganondagan hosts the annual Canandaigua Treaty Day and presents lectures, workshops, and programming reflecting the vibrancy of a living culture and ensuring a sustainable future. This professional development opportunity seeks to elevate the perspectives of Indigenous people of North and South America. This workshop honors Indigenous voices beyond a single day of recognition by considering essential questions and how to improve our instruction. Participants will collaboratively learn about ways to bring Indigenous thought, literature, and values into their classrooms and workspaces. This will be an interactive, hands-on learning experience.

The Haudenosaunee During the Revolutionary War - presented by Perry Ground -Talking Turtle Stories

Saturday, October 3, 2026, 10:30am - 11:30am
Location - The Seneca Art & Culture Center at Ganondagan

The American Revolution was a time of great change in North America. The Haudenosaunee were at the center of this conflict because it was contested on, and for, their lands in what is now New York State. But the Revolution divided the Confederacy as British and American forces pulled Native People into the conflict against their desire to remain neutral. This lively and detailed presentation will explore the role of indicidual battles - as well as the long-lasting effects this conflict had on the Confederacy - covering the council fire, Sullivan-Clinton campaign, loss of land, and diaspora of people.

Perry Ground is a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy, a Master Storyteller & Cultural Educator.

Happening this Saturday, September 26th, 10AM - 4PM!

Join us for a day filled with artistic cultural exchange, during a gathering of Indigenous woodland arts practitioners.

Engage with Indigenous artists, learn about what the natural world provides, and how materials are harvested and processed to create art.

Enrich your understanding of the interconnection between Mother Earth and her gifts and learn about the reciprocal relationships of care and attention that all living things have for each other through these arts.

As artists engage in their practices they'll share their relationship with the natural world, the process of collection of natural materials, cultural history and significances and the materiality of their own arts practices. Many of the artists will also be selling their work.
