๐Ÿ”” Reminder ๐Ÿ””

Our air quality projects meeting is happening online today at 11AM! The meeting is open to the public.

The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD) has planned a community meeting to gather input from residents on reducing emissions and improving local air quality.

The meetingโ€™s core presentation will address the Community Air Protection Program (CAPP), created through Assembly Bill 617 passed in 2017. The program encourages opportunities to collaborate with disadvantaged and low-income communities to improve air quality in areas that need it most.

CAPP aims to focus air quality monitoring and emissions reduction initiatives at the community and neighborhood levels.

Participants at the meeting will hear MDAQMD staff present an overview of the program as well as successful projects that have received CAPP funding since the launch of the program and related emissions reductions. The discussion will also touch on available grants for community groups based in the High Desert and Palo Verde Valley and the next steps in the program for MDAQMD.

The meeting is scheduled today from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Zoom. Those who wish to participate must register in advance at the link in our bio ๐Ÿ”— or at: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/uEk6JTEcSOGObQ-dSBXnnQ.

In addition to the five ๐Ÿ–๏ธ MDAQMD air monitoring stations located throughout the District (Barstow, Hesperia, Lucerne Valley, Trona, and Victorville) the district will occasionally install mobile monitoring stations to gather more localized data in targeted areas. All stations collect air quality data 24 hours a day, seven days a week, measuring pollutants such as ozone (Oโ‚ƒ), particulate matter (PMโ‚โ‚€ and PMโ‚‚.โ‚…), nitrogen oxides (NOโ‚“), and hydrogen sulfide (Hโ‚‚S). After validation, this data becomes part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyโ€™s Air Quality System (AQS), the national air quality database used for regulatory and planning purposes โ˜€๏ธ โ˜๏ธ ๐Ÿชด

Air quality forecasts ๐Ÿœ๏ธโ˜€๏ธfor Wednesday, July 15, 2026, indicate Victorville, Yucca Valley, Hesperia, and Phelan are likely to see the Air Quality Index reach into the orange category for ground-level ozone. This means members of sensitive groups, such as those with respiratory illnesses, seniors, active adults, and children may be affected in the late afternoon and early evening hours. Other areas of MDAQMD jurisdiction are forecasted to have moderate air quality.

This alert is to remain until further notice and will be continually monitored by the district. Summertime temperatures can often lead to rising levels of ozone resulting in air quality advisories.

You can always check the air quality of your areaโ€™s Air Quality Index (AQI) before you head outside by visiting https://www.airnow.gov/
