NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH SPOTLIGHT: MR. STEVE FREENOR

VIDALIA, GA. – Mr.Steve Freenor brings 22 years of experience in education to his first year as principal. His career includes serving as a teacher, alternative school director, and assistant principal. A graduate of Kennedy High School, Mr. Freenor earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Benedictine College, a Master’s degree in U.S. History from the University of Cincinnati, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University.

Mr. Freenor believes schools can change the direction of a student’s life. As a teacher, he valued building relationships and helping students see new possibilities for themselves. As a school leader, he works to support teachers, strengthen programs, and build a school culture where every student has an opportunity to succeed.

For Mr. Freenor, leadership is about building trust, removing barriers, and helping students and staff know they matter.

What he enjoys most about being the principal at Vidalia High School is seeing students grow, celebrating teachers’ successes, and offering support when someone needs it.

People may be surprised to learn that he lived in Germany for seven years, where he experienced a different culture and gained a new perspective on the world.

One quote that inspires him comes from Robert Kennedy: “Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events.”

Build Different. Built Elite.

🩺 Workforce Wednesday | Future Healthcare Professionals

Vidalia High School’s Patient Care Tech students recently attended the STC Medical Career Fair, where they connected with community members and explored career opportunities available to them as future healthcare professionals!

Mrs. Cleghorn also caught up with four former VHS Healthcare Science students who are now enrolled in STC’s nursing program! We are proud to see them continuing their education and wish them much success as they prepare to become nurses.

Experiences like these help our students connect classroom learning to future careers—and seeing VHS graduates pursuing those careers makes the possibilities even more meaningful!

🍏 Teacher Tuesday | Meet Rachelle Campbell

🎓 Her educational journey includes Jeff Davis High School, Brewton-Parker College, and Georgia Southern University.

She and her husband, Jim, a family and mental health nurse practitioner, have been married for 18 years. Their family includes Tyler, a nurse in Savannah; Dawson, serving in the U.S. Army in Alaska; and Emilynn and Hadley, both VHS students—plus five dogs and two cats!

🎹 Fun facts: Mrs. Campbell can juggle, plays piano, French horn, and trumpet, and served as a summer missionary in the Philippines during college. She’s even taken a swim in Walden Pond—a fitting adventure for an ELA teacher!

Her favorite part of VHS? “The relationships I’ve built over the years with faculty and students.”

Thank you, Mrs. Campbell, for the many ways you support our students!
