A library card doesn’t come with a list of what you’re allowed to check out. It comes with options. VBPL’s collections reflect the full range of interests and backgrounds in our community, selected using the same professional standards for every title – because the choice of what to read belongs to you. Here are just a few of the most challenged books of 2025.

🎨 Calling all local creatives!

There’s still time to apply to showcase your artwork in one of five Virginia Beach Public Library galleries — but the deadline is approaching fast! Applications are open through September 30.

VBPL is looking for local artists interested in exhibiting at:
• Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
• TCC/City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library
• Bayside Area Library
• Great Neck Area Library
• Oceanfront Area Library

The Gallery Committee will review submissions and curate a rotating exhibition schedule for 2027. If you're an artist — or you know one — we’d love for you to apply and help us highlight the vibrant art community in Virginia Beach.
