Reliable internet is business infrastructure. 🌐

VARCOMM recently completed more than 50 miles of new fiber in and around Terra Bella, bringing high-speed internet to nearly 1,400 previously unserved locations. The project was supported by more than $10 million through the California Public Utilities Commission’s Last Mile Federal Funding Account.

For GROW Tulare County, connectivity like this strengthens communities by supporting local businesses, farms, healthcare providers, schools and entrepreneurs while helping create opportunities for future investment.

RMA’s Grants & Resources team supported the broader broadband effort, including facilitating a $500,000 state technical assistance grant for County broadband expansion work.

VARCOMM CEO Eric Votaw marked the milestone during the completion celebration. The company has deep local roots and is headquartered nearby in Ducor.

This morning, our team joined community partners to celebrate the grand opening of the Neighborhood Community Center in Visalia.

For 20 years, Neighborhood Church has partnered with Houston School to serve families in this neighborhood. Now, the new center will expand that work through education, mentoring, leadership development, job training and other resources for youth and families, in close collaboration with local partners, including the County of Tulare.

Partnerships help create business opportunities in Tulare County, and they also help prepare young people for the opportunities ahead. Supporting education and workforce development early helps more of our youth see a future for themselves here at home.

Congratulations to Neighborhood Church, Neighborhood Degree and everyone who helped make the center possible for the good of Visalians and the region.

Ag is much of what we do, from maintaining nee growth to restoring trees of old.

See how a Lindsay farm is restoring 150‑year‑old olive trees and crafting award‑winning oils, preserving California’s historic olive heritage.

Our region is powering up to welcome more growth. Congratulations to the City of Tulare, California - Government, Tulare County Association of Governments - TCAG, Caltrans Central Valley District 6, County of Tulare, and the many more community partners that are making the widening of State Route 99 a reality.

This type of infrastructure investment is what we are talking about when we say Tulare County is open for business. With the International Agri-Center welcoming thousands of visitors yearly and the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks welcoming millions, Central California is an increasingly attractive business destination.

The The Sun-Gazette Newspaper released an article about growth in Tulare County. GROW Tulare County leader and Associate Director of the Tulare County Resource Management Agency, Michael Washam, ACE, MEDP, took a moment to discuss population growth in our Central California community. Other Tulare County leaders also chimed in:

“The increase is where there’s more jobs being created and more housing being built,” Washam said. “The houses are kind of a lagging indicator, but they follow the jobs.”

Economic development, Washam said, drives demand for housing, which in turn attracts new residents. But even communities with demand cannot grow without the infrastructure necessary to support it.

“You can’t grow beyond your capacity for your basic infrastructure,” he said. “Sewer capacity, water capacity, things have to be built out in a timely manner. Otherwise, you really can’t get ahead of yourselves.”
