Today, Wacissa Volunteer Fire Rescue joins our neighbors across Jefferson County and across this country in remembering September 11, 2001.
For many of us, September 11 is more than a date in history.
It is a reminder of sacrifice.
It is a reminder of service.
It is a reminder of what it means to show up for your neighbor when they need you most.
Twenty-five years ago, firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and everyday Americans answered the call in the middle of unimaginable tragedy.
Some never made it home.
We remember the 343 members of the FDNY who gave their lives that day.
We remember every life lost.
We remember the families who still carry that loss.
And we remember the way communities across this country came together afterward.
Here in Jefferson County, we understand the importance of neighbors helping neighbors.
We live in a place where people know each other, check on each other, and step forward when someone needs a hand.
That same spirit is at the heart of volunteer fire and rescue service.
When the tones drop, it may be your neighbor leaving the dinner table, getting out of bed, or stepping away from family to answer the call.
That is why September 11 means so much to those who serve.
Today, we ask our community to pause for a moment.
Remember those we lost.
Remember those who ran toward danger.
Remember the families left behind.
And remember how strong a community can be when people stand together.
From all of us at Wacissa Volunteer Fire Rescue, it is an honor to serve Wacissa and Jefferson County.
We will never forget.
