Your voice matters! We are launching our Special Education Parent Advisory Committee to create a space where families, caregivers, community partners, and district staff can come together to listen, collaborate, share ideas, and strengthen special education services across Waco ISD.

Whether you have ideas to share, questions to ask, or simply want to become more connected with other families, we would love to have you at the table. No special experience is needed—just a desire to partner with us for our students! 💙

Our Waco ISD elementary students receiving special education services are invited to take the field alongside Waco High and University High student-athletes for football skill stations designed for everyone. And for students who would rather cheer from the sidelines, our cheerleaders will be there to help them join in the fun! 🎉

Parents and caregivers, this night is for you too—we encourage you to participate, cheer, connect, and celebrate with us.

Whether you're aiming for a personal record or just here for the superhero vibes, this is the ultimate family event to kick off August.

Summer is here, and while school is out, there are still plenty of ways for children and families to stay engaged, active and connected.

Several local districts are providing free summer meals for children and teens 18 and under, with some programs also serving individuals with disabilities up to age 21.

There is still time to sign up for the Inclusive Summer Camp at Art Center Waco! We are excited to welcome students entering 3rd–6th grade to join us for a fun, creative, and inclusive camp experience!

Campers of all abilities will explore art, build friendships, and express themselves in a supportive environment where everyone belongs. We have expanded camp eligibility to include students going into 3rd grade!

We also believe art is for everyone and that every child should have access to creative opportunities. Scholarships are available upon request. To request a scholarship, please email [email protected].

There’s still time to submit your work for the Disability in the Arts Celebration hosted in partnership with Art Center Waco and the Waco Committee for People with Disabilities.

We invite artists with disabilities of all ages and experience levels to share their creativity through any medium—painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital art, fiber arts, mixed media, and more.

This celebration is an opportunity to showcase your talents, share your perspective, and help our community recognize the important contributions of artists with disabilities.

April is Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month

At Central Texas Behavioral Solutions and Central Texas Therapy Associates, this month is more than awareness... it’s about understanding, acceptance, and meaningful support.

Autism is not one story. It’s a spectrum of unique experiences, strengths, and perspectives. Every individual deserves to be seen, heard, and valued for who they are.

As providers and as people who care deeply about this community, we are committed to:
Promoting acceptance over assumptions

Supporting individuals across the lifespan

Empowering families with knowledge and resources

Creating spaces where differences are respected and celebrated

We also recognize that while awareness has grown, there is still work to do, especially in improving access to services, increasing early and accurate diagnosis, and ensuring continued support into adolescence and adulthood.

This month, and every month, we stand alongside individuals with autism and their families to build a more inclusive, compassionate world.

Let’s move beyond awareness and into acceptance.

On Saturday, April 18, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at McLane Stadium, youth and adults (ages 12+) with developmental disabilities and their families are invited to enjoy an evening of fun, field games, and learning about ways to support health and well-being.

We are grateful to partner with the National Down Syndrome Society , with Congressman Pete Sessions serving as Honorary Chair.
