Congratulations, friends— we’re nearly to the weekend!

Friday night’s MYTHICAL MOVABLE BLUEGRASS JAM location is the Courtyard Marriott in Walla Walla, 7pm. If Bluegrass isn’t your jam, head to Liberty Theater for “a fresh yet faithful take” on Jane Austen’s classic SENSE & SENSIBILITY. Great cast, beautiful cinematography, a classic tale. What’s not to love? Rated PG.

Saturday morning, the Waitsburg Car Show is hosting a COMMUNITY CRUISE-IN as part of Wh***ey Canyon’s first OKTOBERFEST event. All community members are welcome— this is a free-entry cruise-in with no official judging— but drivers need to be there early! Arrival for Cruise-In participants is 7:30–8:30am at Wh***ey Canyon with a 10am start. There will also be live music, food and drinks from 10am - 3pm.

At 4pm, head to the Royal Block where chef Kenny Rudolph will be whipping up a SHOYU RAMEN feast for TONGUE + GROOVE, and the MICHAEL KELLY BAND takes the stage at 6pm. We’ve been on the lookout for published audio files from their live recording at Royal Block a few weeks ago with no luck yet, but stumbled over a May 2025 single release, Lavender Blues, that might tide you over ‘til the new recordings drop…

Speaking of drops, if you care about water conservation or need to learn why you really should, Tuesday is WALLA WALLA 2050’s OPEN HOUSE event out at Walla Walla Community College. OBSERVED: The Friends of Weller Public Library Art Auction is off to a strong start!

Each original 24”x36” oil painting portrays a beloved author alongside one of their works, making these pieces a unique treasure for book lovers and art enthusiasts alike.

Each auction item includes:

An original oil painting by Lane Gwinn
A hardcover copy of the book that inspired the artwork
A Weller Public Library reusable tote bag

We have a relaxed week of down home fun planned in the ‘Burg. Laht Neppur is getting the party started tonight with a Halloween-themed TRIVIA NIGHT. If spooky details aren’t your thing, take advantage of the sunshine and try their back patio seating. It’s a lovely spot to share some burgers and craft b**r with friends.

The BLUEGRASS JAM returns to Ten Ton Art for their jam on Friday night. A viewing of the salon gallery wall alone is worth a visit! This is an all ages venue without food and beverage service, so be sure to pack a snack and BYOB, or pop over to the Royal Block next door for 21+ refreshments.

If you’re looking for a little adventure, HEART OF THE BEAST is playing at Liberty Theater in Dayton with all the regular showtimes this weekend. Retired Special Forces Command Sergeant Major James Belmont (Brad Pitt) and his combat dog Odin battle the wilds of Alaska in this survivalist thriller. Rated PG-13

Saturday afternoon, try your luck with CHARITY BINGO at Town Hall! This is put on by the Odd Fellows to raise money for local food banks. Cards are 2 for $15 to play all day, and there are prizes. Good times for a good cause!

Speaking of good causes, Tuesday, October 20 kicks off the Friends of the Library ONLINE AUCTION of six 24” x 36” oil paintings featuring a beloved author and one of their books, by local artist Lane Gwinn. The winning bid gets the painting, the book featured in the painting, and a handy canvas tote. The auction link will be posted on The Siren when it becomes available— bidding closes November 7.

OBSERVED: Caitlin Potts of studio koko // Caitlin Potts had an exceptional kiln day yesterday, as tricky pieces from her new series had just been fired, and collab buttons for the D+ R shop rode along sidecar.

Any jaded ceramicist will tell you to suspend any attachment to your new art baby until it makes it through the firing process, as items can self-destruct with the intense heat. That giant bowl was risky, but made it through just fine. Much jubilation was observed!

It’s a quiet weekend in Waitburg, with only one event within city limits— the CORRESPONDENCE SOCIAL CLUB on Saturday morning at the Pressroom. In addition to a chance to relax, get creative, and reach out to those you love in the most analog way possible, artist and pencil enthusiast Dayna Holz will help you explore the world of pencils through the many levels of graphite hardness in the luxe Mitsu-Bishi Hi-Uni line. There is no cost, but only a couple of seats remain, so RSVP from the link in the The Pressroom bio if you hope to attend.

Slightly further afield, we have the final MIKKELSEN BARN BLUEGRASS JAM of the year on Friday night. This is one of our favorite venues, but please make sure you bring a layer of cozy clothes and maybe something warm to sip as the weather forecast looks a bit damp and cool. 12241 Lower Waitsburg Road

In the opposite direction, Dayton has the outlaw western ANGEL AND THE BAD MAN showing at the Liberty Theater with all the regular showtimes. Can an outlaw find a life beyond violence? Find out. PG-13

And Saturday night Chef Val offers a very special 4-course feast of French country cooking featuring an entree course of Boeuf Bourguignon. Happy Autumn, friends! This weekend is going to be a whirl of activity in Waitsburg, so buckle in.

We have the VINTAGE MARKET kicking off the weekend at D + R. The theme is ‘Cozy Season’, so snuggle up with cozy throws, candles, self-care, and warm layers. Friday - Sunday

Friday night, the FALL OF FREEDOM film series continues at the Royal Block with ‘America on Ice’. Presented by Movie Crush and curated by Warren Etheredge, this installment from award-winning filmmakers challenge perceptions and practices of the Department of Homeland Security. No Cover, 21+

Soothe your spirits with the weekly BLUEGRASS JAM at Hotel Hardware. The 21+ crowd can stop by the Bobcat Room for craft cocktails on their way in. Also uplifting, is the Liberty Theater’s screening of documentary YOU HAD TO BE THERE which explores the 1972 Toronto production of the musical Godspell, which became an unlikely catalyst for a wave of Canadian and American comedy talent.

Gaudy Gal’s FUNKY JUNQUE CRAFT SHOW starts at 9am on Saturday morning with an array of vintage, holiday and crafts, and continues Sunday from 10am - 3pm. There will be Halloween goods and costumes on offer so you can be well-prepared for spooky season. All ages.

At 3pm, the Waitsburg Commercial Club will be taking over the b**r taps for the 2026 WAITSBURG BREWFEST out at the Fairgrounds. Featuring b**r from your favorite local breweries including our very own Laht Neppur, and live music. 21+. Tickets online.

And finally, this month’s Royal Block ART TALK features a work by artist Chris Crites. Join the conversation about the work ‘2 Forgers’. Show up early for special vintages of Delmas W**e. 21+

Get your elbows out— ARTSQUARED kicks off on Friday night at Cavu Cellars! This is the 14th annual fundraiser for ArtWalla, where 6x6” artwork from dozens of area artists (including a few from Waitsburg) are up for grabs— if you’re quick enough. Good luck and godspeed! 21+

For those who prefer a gentler arts experience, head to Liberty Theater for the 2026 MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL. They screen ten international film shorts, and audiences around the nation vote on their favorites. Hotel Hardware is including movie tickets for their hotel guests, and will have prefunc milk-washed clarified Manhattans in the Bobcat Room from 4-6:45 on Friday night before early closing for the show. See the lineup and cast your ballot during any of the regular Liberty Theater showtimes!

Also, for the ‘make your own music’ crowd, the MYTHICAL MOVABLE BLUEGRASS JAM is raising the rafters on the MARRIOTT HOTEL in Walla Walla, Friday night.

For the kids, Weller Public Library has a DROP-IN ART project on Saturday where budding entomologists (and others) can create a Bug Habitat! If you haven’t seen the insect exhibit from the Burke Museum yet, it’s worth dropping by.

In addition to the usual stellar eats in town, both the Royal Block and the Lion’s Club have special dining options for you on Saturday. Salmon lovers will descend on the Fairgrounds Saturday night for the LION’S CLUB ANNUAL SALMON BBQ. It’s a full feast with all the sides starting at 6PM. 21+

At Royal Block, as part of the TONGUE + GROOVE series, Chef Kenny Rudolph will be serving mouthwatering Teriyaki from 4-7PM alongside a lovely array of beverages. At 6PM, the music starts, and the MICHAEL KELLY BAND will be recording live, so bring your best applause. 21+
