Camp 4 Fire : Final Update

The Camp 4 Fire is 18 acres and was 100% contained last night. Today, fire crews continued to secure the edge of the fire and conduct mop-up operations. Mop-up is a labor-intensive phase of wildland firefighting where crews locate and completely extinguish remaining heat sources, embers, and smoldering material inside a contained fire perimeter.

Crews will continue to conduct mop-up operations tomorrow.

Sweater Weather will be taking place Saturday October 17th on Sunday Lake Street in Wakefield. Our trucks will be on display and staffed by members from 10am to 2pm. We hope you stop by and say hello. This will be the last day to order subs from the Wakefield Firebirds Auxiliary, we will be taking orders at this event. We have a few items to give away in addition to some gift certificates that will be going to whoever can guess the closest weight of our truck 6. Thank you to Western UP Recycling for letting us weigh our truck for this event. Guesses will only be accepted in person, no guessing on Facebook. We hope to see you there!

Black River Fire : Crews and aircraft are responding to a wildfire south of Wakefield, MI just east of County Road 519.

You will see smoke in the area and aircraft dipping out of local lakes. Please use caution and obey all traffic controls.

If you fly, we canโ€™t! No Drones in Fire Zones. Any aircraft or drone that flies near a fire shuts down operations and puts the safety of everyone at risk.

Time Cleared: 5:45pm

At 1:25 Wakefield Fire was dispatched for mutual aid by Bessemer Township Fire to a reported brush fire on lakeshore drive on Chaney Lake. Upon arrival, crews located approximately 0.5 acre of brush and trees actively burning. Bessemer Township also requested Wi******er Wis. FD for additional man power.

The fire started from an unattended campfire.

Reminder to always extinguish your fire before leaving it.
