🚒🔥 WALDEN FIRE DEPARTMENT IS HEADING TO SCHOOL! 🔥🚒

This week, members of the Walden Fire Department will be visiting our local schools for Fire Prevention Week 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

Students will have the opportunity to meet firefighters, see our fire trucks, and learn important lessons about staying safe from fires.

⚡ This year’s theme: “Charge Into Fire Safety™ — Safe Charging Is a Superpower!”

Lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives—from phones and tablets to laptops, e-bikes, scooters, and more. Safe charging habits can help reduce the risk of battery fires and keep our families and communities safer.

🔌 Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.

We’re excited to bring fire safety education directly to our students and help them become Fire Safety Superheroes! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️🚒

Thank you to our schools, teachers, staff, and students for welcoming the Walden Fire Department!

❤️‍🔥 Stay safe, Walden!

On Tuesday September 22nd Walden Fire Department members had the opportunity to participate in a state class that talked about how house fires have changed. After the class room portion of the drill members were gathered outside to see how fire can move inside a house when doors, windows, walls, or a roof is opened. This was accomplished by setting a specially made “doll” house on fire and at the end members extinguished the fire. Thank you to the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs for bringing this class to Walden.

Today, Captain Kristie Hall, Lieutenant Matt Gonda, and Firefighters Justin Kurtz, Mackenzie Delmonico, Charlie Fibel, and Brock Morrison joined emergency service members from across Orange County in NYC for the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk. The event honors FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel toward the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, after learning of the attacks. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues his legacy by supporting fallen first responders, Gold Star families, military veterans, and their families.

Autumn is officially here, and colder weather is just around the corner. Before the home heating season begins, don't forget – an annual chimney inspection by a qualified chimney sweep can prevent fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. Here are some chimney fire safety tips from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control.

On September 15th Walden fire department members participated in a hose line escape drill. Members had blindfolds in their SCBA masks before being led into the training tower. Once inside members were brought to a section of hose line and told to find their way out of the tower. Members did this by following a hose line and finding the couplings on the hose. Members went one by one while officers directed them.
