📱🚨 Did You Know? You Can Text 9-1-1!
Not every emergency allows you to make a phone call, and that's where Text-to-911 can be a lifesaver!
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center has Text-to-911 capabilities, and our dispatchers are specially trained to help you through emergencies by text. Whether you're in an area with weak cell service, in a situation where you need to remain quiet, or you're a member of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing community, help is just a text away.
It's easy to use:
1. Open a new text message.
2. Enter 911 as the recipient.
3. Type your emergency message and hit send.
When your text reaches our dispatch center, we also receive location coordinates to help pinpoint where you are. From there, our dispatchers can text back and forth with you, just like a regular conversation, to gather important details and get the right responders headed your way.
Pro Tip: The more information you can provide, the better. Let us know what's happening, where you are, and if anyone needs immediate medical attention. Stay engaged in the conversation and respond to questions as quickly as you can.
🚔🚑🚒 Remember: When calling isn't an option, texting 9-1-1 can be the next best way to get help when every second counts!
Shout out to dispatchers Meza & Nevarez for coming up with a creative post to keep our community informed!
