On Thursday, September 24th, the Walden Explorers Post participated in a hose line maze confidence drill. Explorers worked in teams of two to drag a charged hose line through a maze while spraying water on the maze walls to simulate being in a real building fire. Some of Walden Fire Department’s younger members also got to watch senior members pump water from tanker 239 to Squad 236 in order to learn how pumping from one apparatus to another works.

Is your teen interested in joining? The explorers post is for ages 13 and up! Our next meeting is at 6pm at the Walden fire house on October 8th. Come by and see us!

Despite the nasty Nor’easter weather today, Our Members admirably stepped up and took part in the NYC T2T Race this morning. This is 25th Annual T2T Run which began in 2002 in Memory of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, one of the 343 FDNY Firefighters lost that day. He responded ‘Off Duty’ to the WTC on September 11th, 2001. When he was not permitted to drive through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the WTC, He geared up and ran through the Tunnel to get there. Most unfortunately, he perished a short time later when the South Tower collapsed at 9:59am. His Brave Legacy and those First Responders who still pass away with everyday proudly carries on as exemplified by the thousands who participated today. The T2T Foundation generously assists and funds so many disabled First Responder and Military Families. Their Slogan is ‘ LET US DO GOOD !’
No better displayed today by : Current Explorer, DJ Regan, Former Explorers/WFD Firefighters, Charlie Fibel, Justin Kurtz, Brock Morrison along with WFD Captain Kristie Hall, WFD Lieutenant Matt Gonda and WFD Firefighter Mackenzie Delmonico took part ! We are proud of all of you !

Well Done !!!!👍 ❤️🍀

On Thursday, September 10th, the Walden Fire Explorers Post played a game of hose ball. The object of the game is to use a charged hand line to push a weighted exercise ball across the play area and into the opposing team’s goal. Teams are made up of four explorers. The point of the game is to teach explorers how to handle a charged line and to work as a unit.

We are beyond Proud of our former Walden Fire Explorer and WFD Member, Aiden Gregorio. Friday Evening, he graduated from the City of Olean Career Fire Academy after a strenuous and challenging 14 week curriculum. Some of us made the trip and were honored to be present. Congratulations Aiden !

Thursday night, The Explorers assembled in two teams, took part in two Evolutions switching roles with Engine and Ladder response. After arriving at our Drill Tower on our Apparatus, they stretched ‘200 feet of Attack Hose line to the 3rd/Top floor while the other team conducted forcible entry, searches as well as placing Portable Ladders. ‘Learning occurred’ and strong reinforcement of their skills was evident ! They worked hard and did well !

Friday Night and Saturday, the Members were able to learn and sharpen their Engine, Ladder and Basic EMS Skills at the Pike County (PA) Jr. Firefighter Training Weekend. Despite the ‘driving rain’, the Members were undeterred and worked their Butts off ! Great Job !

Also a Heartfelt ‘Shout out’ to two of our Leaders, Chief Fred and Pattie Williams who were injured in a Car Accident Friday night returning home from the Training Session in PA. ❤️

On Thursday March 12 Explorers participated in a difficult maze while advancing a charged hose line. Explorers also simultaneously flowed water through the line emulating fighting fires in an interior fire situation. Explorers went through the maze in groups of four to practice teamwork and communication skills. Some of our older members were even allowed to wear SCBA packs without masks on to get a feel for what it is like to have the weight on as they crawled through the maze. After Explorers finished using the hoses they drained and rolled the lines before helping to refill the squad and tanker that provided them with water.

Last Night, the Members of the Fire Explorer Post 46 visited the Orange County Fire Museum in Montgomery. Our beloved Chief Jeff Holmes did a spectacular job taking us through the evolution of the Fire Service and the neat equipment that has been used in the last 250 years. From 🪣 Buckets to Engines 🚒!
