Monday night, Walker Fire put in some valuable training focused on firefighter rescue and fireground skills.
Our crew conducted a live dollhouse fire training exercise. The demonstration showed how airflow influences the movement of heat, smoke, and fire throughout a home. It also reinforced an important fire behavior concept: smoke contains unburned fuel. When hot smoke mixes with oxygen under the right conditions, it can ignite, making it critical for firefighters to understand ventilation, flow paths, and the potential dangers smoke presents during an incident.
We also practiced several different victim carries and drags to sharpen our skills in safely removing victims from dangerous situations.
Training like this helps our firefighters stay prepared, work together, and be ready to respond when our community needs us most.
