Over the summer, our department was selected as one of the recipients of the Dominion Energy Volunteer Fire Department Grant Program.
We were awarded $3,000 to help fund equipment or training for our members.
With that money, we purchased a portable leak detection multi-gas monitor.
This device will allow our crews to quickly and accurately detect hazardous gases during emergency responses, including natural gas leaks, carbon monoxide incidents, confined space calls, structure fires, and more. Beyond emergency response, the gas monitor will also benefit our community through public safety calls such as odor investigations, suspected gas leaks in homes or businesses, and carbon monoxide alarms.
Being able to confirm or rule out dangerous gases provides peace of mind to residents and ensures situations are handled quickly and safely.
Last night, the VSFA along with Dominion Energy, put on a celebration dinner for us. Our members were in attendance, as well as KQ County BOS Mark Berry, and newly appointed KQ-Fire/EMS Chief, Brad Burgess.
We are truly grateful that Dominion Energy recognizes the important role volunteer fire departments play in keeping our communities safe. The commitment that Dominion Energy and the individuals behind these decisions demonstrate in supporting local volunteer fire departments is truly wonderful. It is encouraging to see a company that recognizes the value of community service and is willing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who serve and those we protect.
