WWFD's new UTV has officially been added to our fleet. This is REMS 1 (Rapid Extrication Module Support), which will be utilized by our Technical Response Team and Wildland Division, allowing our group to better serve Walla Walla Valley residents and, on a broader spectrum, the Washington State Wildfire Mobilization response plan.

This UTV was purchased utilizing grant funding received from the Wildhorse Foundation. We are extremely grateful for the Wildhorse Foundation and their recognition of the important work we do and how this will make us more versatile. We still have some further work to do on the UTV, but we will be ready to serve very soon!

There were no injuries to firefighters or the tenants of the home.

Damages have been estimated at $350,000. The owner of the home is listed as Crystal Colvin.

WWFD, in partnership with Walla Walla County Fire District 4 and College Place Fire Department, has launched the SAM (Safety Always Matters) Program. This program is designed to provide fire safety, emergency preparedness, and prevention training to every public and private elementary school throughout our county. By bringing safety education directly to our schools, we’re helping students, teachers, and staff learn how to prepare for emergencies, respond appropriately, and build a safer community for everyone.

Congratulations to our newest recruit class on successfully completing the 2026 Walla Walla Fire Department Probationary Academy! The recruits underwent an intensive program, with the goal of finishing strong — the same way they started on June 1. This week marked the 10th and final week of training, which was physically and mentally demanding for everyone involved.

The recruits began each day with a workout at 6:30 a.m., designed to build confidence, help them acclimate to their gear and SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), and foster teamwork. Members of various shifts occasionally participated in these workouts to promote camaraderie across all levels of the department. Each week's training focused on different skills and knowledge; during this final week, the recruits received instruction in rope rescue, victim packaging, and auto extrication.

Thanks to WWFD personnel from across the department for their guidance and assistance with this essential training.
