Pioneer Middle School Lowest grade taught: 6th
Highest grade taught: 8th Pioneer opened its doors to students in the fall of 1949 as the first junior high school in Walla Walla.

In the fall of 1990 the philosophy and programs were revised and Pioneer opened its doors for the first time as a middle school. Throughout Pioneer’s history students, parents and staff have worked together to establish a tradition of excellence. Together, we have achieved excellence in academic achievement, athletic contests, student activities and community service. We look forward to the continuation of this tradition through the efforts of present and future members of the Pioneer community. At Pioneer, we are a community of learners devoted to achieving excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and as citizens of our school, community and nation. Students have numerous opportunities to explore new skills and ideas, to build confidence in themselves as learners and as people. In the fall of 2015, we will once again welcome new students and their families into our midst, looking forward to the unique contributions they will make.

Wednesday was a Day of Service for students and staff at Pioneer. Advisories chose an activity to participate in to benefit the school grounds, the community, fellow students or staff. Mr. Fryatt's class chose to pick up garbage around campus, while Mr. Virrueta's class wrote positive messages around the school. Our culture of positivity is built by our students every day!

This week Pioneer is saying "goodbye" to a legend. Lisa Reinland has served the district for 29 years, 19 of them here at Pioneer. She started as a classroom para, then moved to the position of ISI coordinator. She spends her days with students who maybe haven't made the best choices and gives them dignity, affection and the opportunity to reflect. The number of hugs and fist bumps she was given during her parade today are a testament to the lives she has changed. Lisa, we will miss you dearly!
